Same as previous games, with a few bits added. Multi-player deserves more.

User Rating: 5.5 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 X360
Having been a fan of Call of Duty since COD 4, I have to say I was a little bit disappointed with this one. There is something about this game that I dislike. The story and Spec Ops is the only thing that is keeping me from selling it (Until I finish it). Perhaps it is all because I have played the same thing over and over again that the game is just become boring.

Story – 6/10

The story is carrying on right where MW2 left off. The story has a fair few plot, twists and turns, A LOT of explosions and deaths to characters old and new, which along with good level designs and weapons, makes this the best story of Call of Duty I have played. If you have not yet played the previous MW games or any COD game, or even if you have, the story will confuse you. Infinity Ward doesn't do a good job explaining a story, even from the very first MW. With having more then one story happening at the same time it may throw you off. and you will get confused or even lost about what is happening. The further you progress, the more the story will become clear. Although it may take a few run-through's to fully understand the plot

Like all the other COD games, there is Easy (Recruit) to Hard (Veteran) Difficulty to play. To me the Veteran difficulty isn't as hard as previous games. You can complete the story within a few hours. (5 hours tops depending on how good you are.) With the help of collecting Intel's and other single-player achievements to collect, gives the story a good reason to go back to. However it doesn't have the challenge that I was looking for.

Spec Ops/Survial Mode – 7/10

Spec Ops is back from Modern Warfare 2 with the addition of Survival Mode. Spec Ops is just as fun as MW2 S.O. Like MW2 you will have to complete missions to gain stars. To get three stars you have to complete a mission on Veteran Difficulty, or in a certain amount of time. You can play it with a friend or play by yourself. However there are some missions that can only be played with a partner. However I would recommend playing with a partner with all missions if possible. Compared to MW2, there is less missions, But with the addition of Survival mode makes it worth playing. And you will be playing for quite a while.

If you have played Zombies in World at War/Black ops or the Horde Mode in Gears of War you will find this game-mode rather familiar. You will have to fight off a number of enemies to progress onto the next wave. Each wave will increase in difficulty the more you progress. With the Addition to buying weapons, explosives and air support makes this game fun and enjoyable to play with a friend or on you own. The downside to this is that, if you wish to play with all friends on this game-mode you can only play with up to 1 of them in a private match or one in a public match. The other downside is that it can be repetitive and boring. With this being set in all multi-player maps, it is a good way to familiarize yourself with them before heading online.

Multiplayer – 4/10

Speaking of multi-player, the multi-player is well known throughout the series as being one of the best reasons to play COD. However with MW3, that isn't the case. Having loved the MP in Black ops, there is something about the MP in MW3 that isn't likeable, and I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this. The map design is awful with only a few decent maps such as Sea town, Dome, Fallen and interchange (My opinion). There are way too many camping areas, choke points and to many buildings, corners and obstacles in your way. I am not a sniper, but sniping positions are rare to come by in majority of the maps. If there are more sniping opportunities then I would be happy to become one. Also with the return of Quick Scope players may get annoyed.
The two new game modes, Kill Confirmed and Team Defender, a few more added kill streaks, perks and guns doesn't help make the multiplayer any more enjoyable. Also with the addition of COD Elite, (Like Bungie.net for halo except you will have to pay to get better privileges). it is a waste of money, time and a really pointless addition to the game.br />

Overall – 5/10

In my opinion, this game doesn't live up to the standard that COD has set over the years. The multiplayer in particular doesn't live up to the reputation it deserves, even with the addition of COD Elite. They even took out the Dolphin Dive which was famed in Black ops. It may sound stupid but that is one of the reasons why I liked Black Ops. The graphics and game-play are old and outdated. And multiplayer is just plain terrible. However the story and Spec ops makes this game a worthy to play. If you want to buy this, I would recommend borrowing it off someone or renting it. Don't bother wasting £40/$60 on a game that is pretty much an add on, And don't believe the hype that is set around this game.
