A forgotten masterpiece that changed gaming.

User Rating: 9.4 | Out of This World AMI
Another World may not be well known but it is certainly one of the best games ever made. It pioneered the idea of fully 2D polygon based characters and environments which alone makes it deserving of mention when discussing milestones in gaming history.

The game itself though is incredible. The levels are difficult to the point of being frustrating and often the actions you must take are unintuitive and obscure. It doesn't matter though because of how immersed you become in the game due to the actions of the AI, the scripted sequences and the cutscenes that at the time were unimaginably good.

The untangible thing about the game is just how creepy and unsettling it is. The game is downright scary without ever needing to try.

Sometimes the levels become little more than annoying mazes and trial and error sequences but just as often they are breathtaking.

ONe thing that separates it from the typical game other than the presentation is the weapon you carry. Both enemy weapons and your gun have the same abilities involving one hit kills and some other different things. Hold the trigger for a bit and you can produce a force field in front of you. Hold a bit longer and you get a charged shot capable of taking down a force field.

Hard as it can be Another World (Out of This World on Genesis and NES) is a masterpiece and deserves more recognition.
