Wait, I've been playing for HOW LONG!?

User Rating: 8.5 | Animal Crossing: Wild World DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World is really nothing more than a DS port of the classic Gamecube Animal Crossing. But the touch screen functionality adds a new flavor, and everything is left as it is, with only a few minor changes.

Basically, your character is starting out a new life, moving to a new town to make some new friends, get a new house, fill it with new furniture... you get the idea. Your initial appearance is based on how you answer a set of questions when you first start out, but the only thing that is set forever is your actual face. Clothes, hair, and entire house setups are yours to change as you see fit, though some take longer to access than others (the hair, for example, won't be changable until later in the game).

Wild World looks and sounds exactly like the Game Cube Animal Crossing. Down to the last pixel. I mean, seriously, there hasn't been one graphical update OR downgrade. Which, honestly, leads me to say that for a handheld, the game looks good. The graphics, while a bit understated, do exactly what they need to, that is, the cartoony feel of everything helps you remember that this isn't a game that's ment to be taken seriously. The sounds do the same thing, although it's fun listening to KK Slider play and sing for you, then getting the cd to play at your house.

The game plays easy enough, you can use either the touch screen or the d-pad to control everything. I found it easier to use the d-pad when moving around the world, but navigating menus is much easier when you use the touch screen.

It's not a complicated game by any means, you just fish and catch bugs and occasionally help someone in your town out. But there's enough there to keep you playing for a VERY long time. Maybe you want to catch every fish and bug. Maybe you want to get the biggest house and customize it into exactly what you want. Whatever you set out to do, Animal Crossing: Wild World gives you the means to do it, and boy, can you do it for a long time.
