AMY had a lot of ambition but doesn't quite deliver a complete product.

AMY was a project that many were looking forward to. It has a great concept and seemed like it would really treat old-school survival horror fans. What happened during the development of AMY is a mystery but it is clear what is wrong with it.
The game has you take control of a woman named Lana, a sort of guardian to Amy herself. Amy is autistic meaning she is unable to speak and is socially awkward around new people. The story starts off with Amy and Lana on a train, Lana is speaking on the phone about places and people that players don't know anything about nor do we ever learn any back-story about any of the characters present. Seeing as how there is about 3 main characters and we don't know anything about them or learn anything about them is a bit of a let down on the story side of things. The story itself starts out pretty intriguing but leaves too many questions unanswered ending on a cliff hanger with, again, no answers.
The controls are very reminiscent of old survival horror titles such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill in that feeling of comfortable awkwardness. In other words, the controls are mapped pretty well. The only concern is that the "running" command and the "hold hands" commands can get mixed up when you try to do them simultaneously.
Throughout the game, you'll find yourself sneaking past enemies but there are also times when combat is necessary. The combat is incredibly wonky and the dodging mechanic does not work well at Ala Lana will duck yet still get hit even though the duck is a sign the dodge was successful. Frame rate also gets in the way of combat as well as any other part of the game as it is constantly slowing down. While fighting you'll find yourself getting easily frustrated with sloppy delivery and Lana randomly turning around.
Stealth really only comes into play every once in awhile but it has a special feature. If Lana is alone for awhile she can blend in with the creatures as she starts to change without Amy by her side. The issue here is that the game doesn't give you any hint at when this point of infection is reached which causes huge problems in chapter 5 when this tactic is necessary.
The graphics are genuinely nice. Amy and Lana, as well as the creatures, have a nice amount of detail into them. The environments are relatively similar but aren't that big of a problem since the game is rather short consisting of only 6 chapters.
AMY really wanted to give something great to horror fans but perhaps development time should have been pushed a little longer. It suffers from a few other cons as well such as poor checkpoint system and save system and no unlockable content. AMY could have been a masterpiece but the few technical issues it has are too much to just overlook. The game was still enjoyable but that will only be if you truly are interested in horror. It is only $10 and AMY is worth that much but be prepared to be frustrated with AMY's issues.
