The Room's Tommy Wiseau Wants To Be The Joker And Has The Audition Tape To Prove It

Why so serious, Mark?

While Joaquin Phoenix's name has been tossed around as the likely star of Warner Bros.' upcoming Joker standalone movie, a much more exciting possibility for the clown prince of crime has presented itself. Why not The Room star Tommy Wiseau?

The mysterious and eccentric actor/director teamed with Nerdist to craft his own audition tape to play the iconic villain and it's everything you ever dreamed it could be. With makeup and a costume to give him the look of Heath Ledger's take on the character in The Dark Knight, Wiseau runs through a series of the Joker's most iconic lines from the comics and movies, plays with a toy gun, and shoves a guy in a Batman mask--all without losing the insanity the actor is known for. "I'm the Joker," he screams to round out his audition. "And joke is on you! Yeah!"

In a world where the DCEU is splintering in so many different directors, with more than one actor portraying the Joker, is it too much to want to see more of Wiseau in the role? Probably, but who cares? Seeing an actor like this embrace the craziness that comes with a movie like the room an exploiting it is fun. Besides, is this any worse than Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad?

While you can't see Wiseau in any of the upcoming DC movies, he's plenty busy. In addition to starring in a recent music video, he'll next be seen on the big screen reuniting with The Room collaborator Greg Sestero in Best F(r)iends.
