I love twisted American McGee. Really. But this one just didn't work.

I love twisted dark humor. Unfortunately, all the installments here just didn't work because they try too hard. (I guess some of the stories in vol3 were fun.) It's like a fart joke that's been taken too far too long. At some point, it's time to call it quits. This collection reaches that point around chapter 2. Not to mention that grimm fairy tales were always incomplete snippets at best.

Gameplay-wise, there's only so much "butt stomp it!" one can do before getting bored. A better direction would have been to try to make it a better game, as in completing quests or taking specific actions to actually make the grimm fairy tales more horrific, or even introducing some basic "choose your own adventure" elements and consequences. Unfortunately, polluting the environments to change a stink-o-meter before the goodies clean it up is only mildly challenging to outright annoying.

Graphics are severely lacking, but then again that was the model of the system, so I can't really fault it for that. But playing it on a big screen really does highlight the outdated tech.

My advice is to give it a pass.
