Jack Red reviews Altered Beast

Hi everyone now I wanted to review another classic from my child hood: Altered Beast on Sega Genesis. I remember finding it in an store on the shelves loving the cover of the game while wondering how it like. Well it became one of my favorite beat em ups of all time for many reasons. Oh here's a fact that some of you Sega fans might not know the man who created Golden Axe actually made this wow right. It was one of the first games released on the console while being the best port of the classic arcade game.

I would like to depend against one criticism about this being inferior to the original game. At the time they weren't many good ports with the good ones did suffer some changes that barely effect the gameplay. The original game was tougher since it has more enemies with unlimited continues but this port does maintain the difficulty. I kinda like the port more since it also has a code to give you more lifes with continues as well as level select.

Altered Beast starts out with a nice intro where Zeus summons a random man coming out of an grave. You must collect three blue orbs in order to transform into a creature meant to fight the boss. Like Golden Axe games there are no health power ups though it does have a very simple continue code to help you beat the game. The music to even this day was one of the best ever on the Genesis especially for an port. It's one of the hardest beat em up game I ever play now some of you guys have play Comix Zone well it's actually harder than that.

Like many beat em up games you fight until you beat the boss now the difficulty does up with each level. The enemies differs each level that you need to do a lot of practice in order to beat the game. You can transform into a Were Wolf, Dragon, Bear and Tiger that actually makes the game more fun to play. I love how helpful all of your forms are because they fit the level perfectly meaning it's a fair challenge. The bosses do get harder with each level now I the final boss is really hard though it could be worst fighting Death Bringer in the Genesis port of Golden Axe.

Another thing thing I need to bring up is like Golden Axe they made a new ending for the port. When you beat the final boss you get the ending then a secret mini game occurs as you watch the ending credits. Now can you name any game that has a mini game being played while the credits roll I bet you can't. The last thing I wanted to bring up is there was an GBA game with a sequel never released in the USA. Yet none of those could match the sheer greatness of the original. I hope you guys enjoy my review on one of my favorite arcade ports ever.
