When ever you mention alone in the dark your probably thinking about new nightmare or the brand new ones which just means you let out a ugh and shudder. That wasn't always the case for alone in the dark. This original one actually pretty much created the survival genre as we know it with camera angles, pre rendered backgrounds and haunting sound effects (well for 1992).

You play as edward carnby (strangely ginger int his one and is meant be the same one as the new one) a PI in the 1920s. he has to go through the decrepid and haunted Decreto Mansion which has a history of black magic and other nasty things.

Well you can guess soon as you step through the door plans go out the window as your meant to fend off monsters.

For 1992 the graphics are reasonably good using 3d but now a days is makes your eyes bleed as canbrys moustaches is literally just two triangles stuck next to each other.

Another problem is that carnby walks as though hes just had an enema and strangely has a hump. This game is pretty easy but there are to many chances to get killed instantly or screw up the game beyond repair and thus restart the entire game. Also the game isn't made for fighting and it shows when ever you enter a fight it is awkward and stiff. And even its material that it originated from (tales from HP Lovecrafts stories) are very loosely used.

But if you can look past the gripes i had and have a wlakthrough try it just for nostalgia.
