User Rating: 8 | Alone in the Dark 2 SAT
Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's revenge is the PlayStation and Sega Saturn port of the smash hit PC title Alone In the Dark 2. This review is around the Sega Saturn port.

Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's Revenge is a survival horror title. Although it received bad reviews and very low scores, Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's Revenge is not as bad as reviewers say it is.

Story 9/10
Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack' Revenge takes place 3 months after the events of the first game. The plot involves Edward Carnby being involved in a new case. This time he has to rescue a kidnapped little girl named Grace Saunders from a gang supernatural undead gangsters and pirates whose hideout is in Hell's Kitchen, California. While he is at it, Edward has to clean Hell's Kitchen of every undead gangster and pirate in the hideout.

The story of Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack' Revenge , though not as good as the original, is pretty good. While playing throughout the game, Edward will encounter books that explain the history of Hell's Kitchen and all the bosses of the game. Each boss character has a great backstory and the twists that come later in the game will get you hooked.

Graphics 5/10
The graphics of Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's Revenge was heavily panned by reviewers throughout every magazine and website for being outdated and having such a slow framerate. Althought it is outdated Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack' Revenge's graphics at least don't make you eyes sore. I definitely agree that the game's framerate can be slow at times and can make such irritating slowdowns. However unlike what every reviewer stated, Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack' Revenge doesn't move at a low framerate and slow pace all the time as you play. Most of the time Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack' Revenge runs at much faster pace and with higher framerate than some old DOS computer's could run Alone In the Dark 2. Additionally Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's Revenge is playable and doesn't have extreme slowdown like the 3DO's port of Alone In the Dark 2. Overall the graphics are the weakest point in the game, but they are nowhere as bad nor are the game's framerate as slow as reviews stated.

Sound 10/10
The soundeffects are very good in Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's Revenge. Every book or piece of writing the player could get and read have full voice acting. The voice acting is great (especially for a game from the mid 90s when voice acting nonexistent in most games and 99% of all games that had voice acting had crappy voice acting) both when character's speak in game and when the player is reading books in the game. The true gem of the game in the sound category is the music. Using red book audio soundtracks, Alone In the Dark has a gripping 1920s jazz style musical score that is so good you will want to leave the sound on everytime you play the game.

Gameplay 10/10
The best part of the game. Everything that made Alone In the Dark so great is backed and improved on in One Eyed Jack's revenge. There are now more enemies and much more exciting action and fight scenes. The amounts of traps for enemies are far more than the original and very entertaining to watch (such as lighting up a canon and using it to destroy an entire room, killing enemies in there). Great mindboggling puzzles are back and the different there is a larger number and more variety of weapons than in the original Alone In the Dark. Even the brilliant melee system of the original is imrpoved upon. Edward now has more effective and different weapon strikes than the original. For unarmed combat, they replaced the slow hooks of the original with much faster jabs and straights. They replaced the deadly fouette kick with the slower but even more deadlier Reverse Lateral kick. They even added a Headbut attack for very close range!

Overall 8/10
Despite what reviewers say, Alone In the Dark:One Eyed Jack's Revenge is a great game. It is a great buy especially at $10. I recommend this game for anyone looking for a good survival horror title on the Sega Saturn!
