A good football game...

...and not too much else.

I haven't owned a football game since whatever version of Madden I had back on my PS1, so I was looking to pick one up for my X360. However, I didn't want to have to play as an NFL team, or just use whatever players the game sticks you with. This game lets you create your own players and build your own teams. It even lets you design your own uniforms - pretty cool all in all. Plus I found a copy for $1.92, used. Hard to complain for that price, so I won't.

Pros-

Creating your own players is a lot of fun. My team right now has Red Grange running behind the blocking of Bronco Nagurski and Joe Montana (that's a game built player) throwing to Steve Largent and Mark Bavaro. Cool stuff.

Designing your own uniforms is pretty cool too. The interface takes some getting used to, but it gets the job done nicely.

The football itself is really good. They went for a more realistic approach than some of the other games on the market today seem to have taken. This is, maybe, the games biggest selling point. I listed it third because I just really enjoy the first two aspects most. :)

The on field graphics are good. Also, the player movements are appropriate and convincing.

Lots of multiplayer options. In fact, multiplayer seems to be the thing the developers were most interested in, because it's the thing that seems to have gotten the most attention.

Cons-

There's not a lot going on in the single player game. You can make a team and play through a full season, but there is no actual dynasty mode.

The individual player animations outside of the on field stuff is pretty bad. It's especially evident when you are in the "create a player" screen.

The kicking game really sucks. :(

Value for your money-

Good. It's cheap, even if you buy it new; and there is a lot of fun to be had. It's the only dedicated football game (I might pick up Blitz II) I'm going to own for the foreseeable future and I'm pretty happy with it for that purpose.

A lot of people are probably not going to be interested in this game simply because it doesn't have an NFL license, but, if you can get past that (it's really not that hard a thing to get past, and it was actually a selling point for me) you'll find a really good football game waiting for you to enjoy. If you like playing online, you'll especially want to try this game.

Even if you don't buy it used, you can still get it for a pretty good price. If you find a copy as cheap as the one I picked up, there's really not much to regret. I mean, you can probably burn more than $1.92 in gas just sitting at a stoplight.
