Forget this forgettable platformer.

Though the Sega Genesis was one of the two premier systems in the early 1990s, it sure did have a lot of games that were probably better left in the vault, locked away and secluded for all time to forget. Unfortunately, Alex Kidd was released on the Virtual Console of the Nintendo Wii just a short time ago so it may be time to inform others of my experience back in 1989.

I still own this game and though it sits quietly in a storage container, I can genuinely say that this was a very difficult game. With over eleven levels of crazy zaniness, you might think the unique quality of the game could redeem it but that is simply not the case.

Alex Kidd originally appeared on the Sega Master System. In this iteration, he takes on all sorts of enemies like bugs and men with saws. To beat the game, you have to find the rice cakes at the end of each level and sometimes there are special bosses.

These bosses must be defeated by playing a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. It can be quite easy when you get the item to read their mind. There are also many special items from being able to shoot with your hands, pogo sticks and also personal helicopters but even with all these gizmos, the game is far too annoying to make it any fun.

Hard to beat, the game's difficulty doesn't save it from the monotony or the horrible music or the fact that the gameplay is just plain old not fun.

No matter which way you play it, this game isn't great. It's time to send this to the garage sale where it rightfully belongs.
