Alan Wake is an innovation in videogaming- there`s no other game with such unique storytelling and presentation!The game has an episodic structure,just like a TV series.Story is quite complex and unpredictable,it gets revealed as you progress further through the game.During gameplay you can hear the character`s thaughts which really makes you fell that you`re playing with a real person who has his own personality,not just some made-up AI.
Graphics are more than impressive-the environmental detail is perfect,character models are very cinematic and I`ve never seen such great lighting effects.There are also some very beautiful landscapes that are worth observing.Despite everything,many interiors lack detail and vsync,which draws things back a bit,but since the game is mainly in open areas,that`s not really a huge problem.The only considerable drawback are the cutscenes-they are detailed,but the characters` faces are static,lack detail and emotions which makes you feel you`re playing a very old game at times.
Gameplay is complex,responsive and fun.There are enough weapons to provide variety.I`ll never get bored of killing possesed by darness :) !
In terms of sound,there are just a few games out there that can compete with Alan Wake.The score is amazing and suites the spirit of the game perfectly.During gameplay you hear more dynamic music when the tension rises and some calm music when things cool down.The characters sound pretty good,too.The only drawback here are some silly lines that just don`t fit in the spirit of the game.
Game itself is rather short,but there is plenty of content still to come out because of the episodic structure.The ending itself is expected to come via DLC.
To sum everything up:
-Presentation-10/10 Can`t ask for more...
-Graphics-9.3/10 Amazing lighting and detail,but some poor looking interiors and character faces keep this from being the best looking VG out there.
-Gameplay-9.5/10 Gripping and varied enough not to get you bored.Some extra enemy types would have been good
-Sound-9.7/10 Everything is perfect,except some silly lines that don`t fit in.
For a game that has been in development for five years,one`d expect everything to be flawless.Well,there are a few,mainly technical,flaws in Alan Wake that keep it from perfection but don`t make it a less amazing and innovative game.It`s a great experience which I recommend to every 360 owner.
