The original is better

After all the glowing reviews of this game my expectations were high. I have played RTS games since they first became popular with Command and Conquer. The original Age of Empires and Red Alert are still great games. Most of the reviews praise AOE 2 as fixing all that was wrong with the original and adding more. My problem with that assessment is that the original was already great, and "fixing" things wasn't an improvement. To be fair I haven't put in the many hours with AOE 2 that it would take to discover all the great new features that many people rave about, and I don't the patience or time to do that. That is my first complaint, there is just to much stuff to learn. Second is the larger size of buildings, while the graphics may look more impressive I find it much harder to see what is happening around your base. Also, having all the new options just makes it worse because of the number of buildings available. If you are already a fan of AOE 2 you will probably disagree with this review, if you are new to the series or have played the original and are interested in seeing the second version, be prepared to spend a lot of time with it.
