One of the earliest tank simulators, ATR shows a good graphic (For 1995) but fuzzy battles

User Rating: 6 | Across the Rhine PC
Across The Rhine is one of the earliest tank simulators, envolving both battle planning and simulation itself. Microprose made its debut in 1995, and for that time the graphics were huge. You can choose the allied side or the german one, and the first step is planning your strategy on a chalk board. Once your strategy is defined, the game become very boring, with battles of non-sense and with a stupid AI. If you have the CD version of ATR, Microprose gives you a gift: A second CD called Video Disk, with interesting images and stories about the tank campaign during WWII. Also, the manuals are excelent, featuring not only instructions, but also some history about the bulge campaign, Rommer, the desert fox and others. Just to finish, if you need to run this old game under Windows XP you'll need some software like Dosbox, otherwise it's impossible to install and run it.
