The bottom line of this is simply this: it is a quick arcade game that is way fun. It brings back the days of playing NFL Blitz and NBA Jam when I was a young kid. Anyway, onto the review...

First, this is not NHL '09... and it was never meant to be a dynasty game or whatever. It is a quick pick up, as complex as you'd like to get interface which uses any control scheme from NHL '94 through NHL '09.

Next, there is no learning curve... and it is absolutely great for that. In order for me to compete with anyone locally I know in NHL '09, they need to buy it and learn it for about a month. Then they get crushed by me anyway. My wife picked this up and actually competed with me due to the simplicity of the game.

Lastly, the outlandish/over the top nature of the game is so pleasing... nothing like checking a buddy (or wife) over the boards then making the whole other team look foolish and scoring. Also, when you clear the puck on goal - sometimes it goes in!!! What luck!!!

I would recommend this game to ANYONE who loved/loves NBA Jam or NFL Blitz. You won't be disappointed. These fanboys who are blasting this game for no season or no teams/etc. are all worked up because:
A - Their team sucks and they got no players in the game
B - They want it to be NHL '09
Either way, suck it up and either buy NHL '09 for 6 times the cost or love this game for what it is... and excellent blast from the past experience brought to you on an icy surface with today's REAL superstars!!!!
