FIFA WORLD CUP SOUTH AFRICA 2010(WII) Review

User Rating: 6.5 | 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa WII
2010 FSA for the WII is an ambitious game, but is ultimately too generic and average to stand out in the crowd of football games on WII. Winning the world cup is either too hard or too easy, difficulty setting never seems just right. Winning the World Cup might seem special for the first time, but loses its appeal quite speedily.
The premise of the game is obvious. You pick one or two human controlled teams and you try to win the World Cup. It's a formula that's been used too many times before, and FSA 2010 doesn't do much in the way of making the experience special. You play game after game on the World Cup, and after a few times you will wish they had thrown in more sections of them game. You don't even participate in the qualifiers you just automatically play as a team that's in the World Cup. You can't play any other qualifying tournaments like the Euro Cup, so pretty much you only play 12 games before beating the game. You can go to HIT THE PITCH mode, to pair to random teams and play a quick match, but has there really been any sports game where there hasn't been that? You can play online, and for the most part it runs smoothly, but you can only play quick matches online, you can't have an online world cup with random participants. Even more disappointingly, you can't even have any tournaments at all, and you can't add friends.
There is a new mode called ZAKUMI'S DREAM TEAM, where you challenge countries and take their star players to add to your current roster. You can also accomplish this by complete challenges and activities. It's a cool addition, but it can't save this relatively shallow football gaming experience.
Overall, it does a decent job of capturing the World Cup spirit the first time, but without any qualifiers to play, or any other fun game modes (with the exception of ZAKUMI'S DREAM TEAM) this is a game you won't be playing for long. There are no control issues, but at the same time the controls aren't amazing either.
