A fair car-shooter with both massive pros and cons.

User Rating: 8 | 187 Ride or Die PS2
187 Ride or Die is like Mario Cart transformed into a more gangster approach. Now while this may seem both cool to some, and stupid to others, it isn't actually heading in neither direction.

Let me introduce you to my shorter summary.

PROS:
-The gameplay is fairly good and single-layer is decent for a while.
-The multiplayer co-op mode is funer than the single-player as ypou both team up to win races and battles.
-Takedowns are sometimes entertaining to watch.
-A lengthy story mode to keep you busy.
-Several different locations and different modes of racing, deathmatches, etc.
-Occassional cutscenes use nice graphics.

CONS:
-The graphics aren't spectacular, just ordinary.
-Single-player runs thin a while before you finish it as the controls are not as good as multiplayer co-op.
-Story isn't that great as it gets basically no-where.
-Eventually gets repetitive in story mode.
-Could be more weapons.
-Could be more locations.

Okay, now for my actual review.

Well the story isn't quite entertaining or thrilling in anyway, just the usual from any urban-based L.A-type gang game. The only difference between Ride or Die and other gangland games is that 187 is based aorund car-racing/shooting instead of mindless killing-sprees.

You play as a guy called Buck and you are aiding Dupree in the fight against his arch enemy, Cortez.
Dupree was shot by Cortez nine times and now wants revenge by sending Buck on missions to out-race Cortez's crew and eventually try to kill him.

Now, the lanuage used in this game is minimal which is not what you'd expect from a gangster game like this, but hey, it was made in France by a French company so maybe they just didn't look into the laguage and slang that modern-day American gangster use these days.

The gameplay is enjoyable and the sounds provided are mediocre and the voice-overs are alright but aren't perfecto.
Racing is a whole ton of fun, especially in co-op but Deathmatch is better. Deathmatch is a whole lot of fun where racers are pit against each other in an arena to see who can be the last man surviving. This too, is highly enjoyable and entertaining in multiplayer.

I would imagine that online would be fairly good but I have never played it online, so yeah.
The soundtrack is solid with hip-hop beats and rap music of recent memory from before 2005 seeing as that was when the game was made.

The graphics aren't stunning but they aren't terrible, they are practically ordinary.
The controls are simple, especially in co-op for the shooter, its just pointing the right-analog stick in the direction that you want to shoot.
Single-player shooting is no-where near as satisfying and fun as multiplayer though as you have an auto-lock-on enabled where you press the R1 button to shoot.

In my conclusion, this game, 187 Ride or Die, is a nice game with alright graphics, mediocre sound and voice-overs, enjoyable gameplay to some extent and contains a long story mode.
Some will enjoy this game, others will dislike it thoroughly. I honestly liked this title and hope that you do too.
