Almost Perfect

As you come into this new installment of God Of War, there are many things that you fall in love with instantly; A different take on Kratos, graphics, music, storytelling, and lore hinting towards the future of this series. While I still consider God of War a must-buy, there are a couple of things that I had a problem with.

One was the RPG elements in the game. While this is a problem more so in the beginning of the game, exploring feels limited to the fact that you just have to boost stats or get better gear in order to face certain enemies before coming back to that area. I was bummed a bit because I love to explore and I was only playing on normal difficulty so difficulty doesn't matter.

Second and final problem I had with this game was the absurd number of unblockable attacks. This is coming from someone who has platinumed God of War already and games like Bloodborne so I do consider myself to be a pretty good player. I loved the tactical approach to God of War, combat is fluid and keeps you on your toes but there is a difference between hard difficulty and cheap difficulty. Enemy targeting felt cheap at times (still hits after a dodge) and fighting multiple enemies felt cheap at times only because when you try to block one enemy, another will charge at you and notify you of an unblockable attack last second giving you no time to react. If you do try to dodge everything, then the combat just becomes a dodging simulator with no time to get your hits in. This almost ruined my enjoyment with the game but overall, the combat is still fun and rewarding if you learn each enemy's fight patterns... just remember to use everything at your disposal or you will get frustrated.
