Mortal Kombat 1 Review (PS5)-

"Mortal Kombat 11 (the last mainline series entry) introduced us to Kronika, the Titan of time, who was attempting to sabotage the world and create one to her liking. When her evil plan is thwarted by Liu Kang and his Earthrealm comrades, Liu Kang becomes the Keeper of Time, which sees Liu Kang become more of a God-like entity than he already was. He now has the difficult task of maintaining the histories and ridding it of any ill-conceived threats. He has complete control over anyone's life and can point said life in any direction or shape he chooses. Liu Kang, being the kind soul he is, allows even vengeful men like Shang Tsung a new lease on life, albeit one of a smaller scale than their last, and closely observed to ensure they remain ignorant and feeble beings so as not to become a colossal threat to mankind again. But, by doing this, he now has opened up many possibilities. In this new world crafted by Liu Kang's hand, will history repeat itself or will something entirely new begin?"

"The game is what we have come to expect from Mortal Kombat entries, with one particular aspect brand new. This game has you pick one fighter and a back-up tag team partner or Kameo fighter, and with a tap of R1 will see you work in tandem with that characters abilities in battle. While nothing revolutionary, it does help mix things up a bit and keep things from becoming stale too fast. The graphics are by far the best we have ever to see from a MK game, colors popping on almost every still. The backgrounds are multi-layered with detail and zeal, making it almost unrecognizable as a MK game which usually has dark and oppressive themes. Liu Kang has truly built a bright new era."

"The fighting is mostly still the same system we have become accustomed to, with some moves becoming enhanced if you push R2 at the end and then there is also the Kameo moves mentioned above. The Fatalities are present of course, and as gruesome as ever!! Which is a plus, alot of people return just for this reason alone. Also returning are Brutalites, moves that become possible only as an end of fight combo being unleashed on your opponent as the finishing touches. Bloody and barbaric, as expected. Kameo brutalities and Kameo Fatalities make an appearance, which is always good. The story mode is fun and very enjoyable, although very predictable. I also liked the character roster being put on variety, allowing some characters who have not got the spotlight very much such as Reiko, some room to shine."

"Overall, MK1 is a great fighting game, which is expected to be improved upon with DLC and a bigger roster as time goes on, but at time of writing, the game is a great fighting game. Just don't expect much to change in the formula!
