Sony Projects Console Sales, Posts Profit

Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. expects to sell 18 million PlayStation console units worldwide in the year beginning April 1, 1997. That would more than double their current installed user base, which at the end of March stood at 13.5 million - approximately 9 million of which shipped in the preceding year. SCE's parent, Sony Corp. said today that sales of the system contributed to a 24.3 percent rise in its group revenue in the consumer electronics division.
