How can anyone possibly enjoy this, this, this... I'm short on words here. A little help, please?
1 out of 10 might seem unfair. It would've seemed unfair even to me if not for one little detail. Zone of the Enders was the only game I ever physically destroyed. That's right! After 5 hours of gameplay I got the DVD out of my PS2, first smashed it onto a wall and then hit it several times with a hammer. I remind you once again, it is the only game I ever hated that much.
Now comes my "why". Why? Because there is nothing good about this game, absolutely nothing. Everywhere it could fail, it did fail.
Gameplay - Mighty terrible. All you do is kill 2 types of robots (yes, two - you heard me right) the whole game by button-mashing the square button, and "dodging" the R2 button. The battle is so tasteless, so pathetic, so unbelievably boring that it makes watching the paint dry seem like a carnival evening in Rio. Bosses are the same "colorfree" bunch with the same tactics all over: wait for the opening, strike with the charged shot, evade, rinse and repeat.
Sound - Bloody awful. Music is terrible, voice acting is even worse. It makes me want to vomit whenever I hear one bit of it.
Graphics - Terribly bad. Even for the 2001 game the graphics are really bad. Plus it's so dark mostly that you don't see much ahead. The environments look all exactly the same.
Story - Awfully disastrous. The story is just the sum of all banality. Enough said.
Well after the ZoE DVD met such a disgraceful end I decided to write a postmortem personally. I'm gonna be blamed and bashed for this. I don't care: the truth needs to be said.
Hideo, you should be ashamed of yourself. For this and for MGS2.
