Super Robot Wars "Lite"

User Rating: 8.5 | Z.O.E: 2173 Testament GBA
I happened upon this title long after completing the North American releases of Super Robot Taisen OG 1&2 and was very pleasantly surprised to find an almost identical experience. As it happens, the company that developed ZOE:FoM also did work on early SR games (Winky Soft.) Though not as good as the SRT games, it stands well on it's own and is a welcome addition to the GBA, especially for those of us in North America starving for Super Robot Wars games. The combat of FoM differs from the Super Robot game in that it allows you to forfeit the usual hit and evade percentages in an attempt to beat the odds by participating in a mini-game where you must conrol a cursor to try to pinpoint the enemy you are attacking as it zooms around the screen or controll the cursor to avoid the enemy cursor that is attempting to target you (I was able to successfully avoid attacks at 100%!) The addition of this feature is fun but quickly grows repetetive and makes the game far too easy. I was able to complete the game without getting hit but only a couple times. The battles also exclude the counterattacks of SR games further contributing to the ease of the game as there is nothing to dissuade weak units from attacking strong units. Like the SRW games, FoM is very heavily story driven and includes much dialogue but it is engaging enough to keep the player interested and helps develop the characters (fans of SR games will be very used to this!)
This game will appeal to any fan of the Super Robot games and is also worth playing for fans of the Z.O.E. universe.
