Perfect Example of a Arcade Game

User Rating: 9 | Zombie Apocalypse X360
Zombie Apocalypse is a game which was developed by Konami for download on the Playstation 3/ Xbox 360. It supports up to 4 player co-op either through Live/PSN or Local Play. It is a classic style shooter with simple button layouts and a top down style camera angle.

The main goal of the story is to stay alive till Day 55 or better put Level 55. You fire your gun with the right analog stick and move with the left which makes for some very easy controls even if your fingers do get numb after a while. You have a default Assault Rifle that you start out with on every level which has infinite ammo plus you have a chainsaw to use against the relentless zombies. (L2 Performs a Chainsaw Execution which takes longer but adds to x3 to your score multiplayer while R2 pulls out your chainsaw for basic attacks) You will also start out each round with one Teddy Bear Bomb which is a teddy bear with a C4 charge in it. When you throw the Teddy Bomb most zombies immediately stop chasing you and herd around it, it blows up like 5 to 7 seconds after you throw it killing everything around it. (R1 or L1 will throw the Teddy Bomb) In most levels weapons will randomly spawn for you to pick up and use till their ammo gets depleted. There are 11 weapons on the game which you will be able to pick up in later levels to use. All together there are 7 environments to play on with each having their own unique feel and "Hazards" to use against the zombie menace.

Now lets get to the gritty stuff which is the zombies themselves. There are 8 types of Zombies if my memory is correct. Each has their own type of movement and attacks to contend with. Some will even have dynamite and try to blow themselves up next to you to kill you (they are accurately named Kamikaze Zombies) The zombies are dumb in their behavior but they have numbers and speed (these are not your average run of the mill slow zombies) on their side. The trick is to figure out a motion to keep them herded up and following you around while you shoot and kill massive amounts of them. On Day 27 you will start to encounter "Radioactive Zombies" which look the same as regular zombies but glow green and are harder to kill. The zombies keep spawning till you have got to the end of the round. Not sure how the round is determined to be over but you will know when fewer and fewer zombies are spawning.

The game starts out with you choosing a character to play as. There are 4 characters to choose from with 1 Woman and 3 Men. It doesn't matter which you choose since the storyline/lack of storyline stays the same no matter what. When you start out on Day 1 the first thing that happens is a "survivor" comes out. To save a survivor run up to them till a red flare appears on the ground then hold off the zombie waves till the helicopter comes to rescue them. If you do rescue a survivor you will net a cool 250,000 points plus they will drop a Teddy Bear Bomb. If you already have a Teddy Bomb in your inventory you will net a extra 100,000 points for picking up the extra. If you happen to let your survivor get killed she will become a zombie herself, if you allow her to grab you it will be a instant death.

Now that you have a basic rundown of this game lets look at it some good spots. The developers have done a good job of creating a fast to learn fun shooter. There is a lot of blood and gore in the game which is exactly what you need for a zombie game. The animations when you use level hazards on zombies is pretty nice. They have made unlockable modes for the game for doing certain tasks which adds some replay value to it. The game itself supports up to 4 player co-op either through Live/PSN or through local play. This enables you to have some fun matches with your friends.

Some bad points of this game are: The game seems to drag on a lot after about day 30 when you have played on every map a couple times. Some higher levels seemed designed only for multiplayer and seem almost impossible on single player.

Overall this game is worth a buy in my opinion since it gives you exactly what a Arcade game is supposed to which is fast fun. The game seems a lot better also if you play with a friend instead of single player like I did. I have uploaded some videos of this game here on Gamespot if you want to view more.

PS. Sorry for how this review skips all around but its kind of how my mind is right now in my life
