I have seriously played this game on someones genesis before. I know now that it's famous for its English translation, as seen in the opening cut-scene. However, most people don't cover the game because of how stupid the translation is. However, if those people could actually look at the game, Zero Wing is very entertaining for Genesis fans who don't just care about the english translation.
In the game, you are the Zeg, a space plane in 2049 A.D. and must save your captain from the C.A.T.S. You basically wander flying in the plane, and the game-play's similar to Star Fox, except not in third person. At many times, the game is addictive, since it uses powerful weapons, despite their pattern. Still, the game chooses to be too easy or too hard almost every level. The boss Battles are very challenging and fun to beat, however.
Graphically, the game is a genius. The movements are flawless and the controls are great. The level design in the game is one of the best ever made, because of its futuristic atmosphere.
This game is easily a good soundtrack, because of the flawless music. The intro music is amazing, and the first levels music is very catchy for all those rock fans. The audio is splendid too, and the game even has digitized voicing.
Regardless of the poor english translation, Zero Wing will remain one of the best Genesis shoot 'em ups ever made. This is also one of the best Genesis games ever made, because of its splendid graphics and music, and its fun and large atmosphere. Overall, if you want a classic Shoot-em up for the Genesis, this arcade port will do just fine.
