GAMEPLAY === 9/10
The gameplay is quite similar to what you've been familiarized with in the previous Halo installments, and brings a few new weapons to your disposal. The gameplay throughout both campaign and mutliplayer is very solid and is one of the things that attracts the masses towards this great game. Overall, the new additions to the game can be appreciated for the good things that they are, but I still must say that I missed the lifebars from the original Halo.
My only real complaint about Halo 3 is that it doesn't allow you to completely invert your right analog stick. It will allow you to invert the right analog sticks vertical view, but will not allow you to do so horizontally. This is a feature that the original Halo had, and that several shooters seem to be missing nowadays. It's not a big issue, but it hampered my progress in campaign for quite a while because I had to force myself to learn Default, which was actually useful in the longrun.
GRAPHICS === 8.5/10
I suppose the graphics are good, but they aren't that impressive to me at all compared to other next-gen games. I won't even bother comparing it to Crysis since that's not a console game, but other console games like Gears of War, Bioshock, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Call of Duty 4 have far superior graphics in my opinion, and Halo 3 just doesn't seem to shine in this aspect. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are still nice and will keep you thoroughly immersed in both the campaign and multiplayer, but I would just expect more from such a big title.
SOUND/MUSIC === 9/10
The sound and music in the game are nice, not really worthy of a 9.0, but I love the Halo theme, so I'll give it that anyways. For the most part, guns do sound realistic and the sounds of the environment and enemies do help immerse you, but are not the best I've heard. I love the voice-acting, so I would say that is one of the strong points in Halo 3 sound. Overall, it's a great blend of sound and music, but not the best ever created.
STORY === 8/10
Though the campaign was enjoyable through the first playthrough and brought a nice ending, it didn't hit me the same way as the original Halo, and it felt somewhat lacking at the end. This is forgiveable however, because of the fun of gameplay. I'm just not sure the campaign has much replay value.
VALUE === 10/10
Sure, the story might not be the greatest...but who needs a great story when you have Halo 3s multiplayer. It's outstanding, and to this day there is a very short list of games that have as much multiplayer fun packed in them as the Halo series does. It may not have any individual aspect topped in this final installment, but I assure you that this game will maximize the fun you can have with a couple of friends over any day, any time. This game may not be worthy of the hype it gets, but trust me, this game still has some value packed within it.
BOTTOM LINE === 9.1/10
Overall, Halo 3 is not the perfect 10 game, the next revolutionary game, or the game of the year, but is a great enjoyment, a nice closure to the series, and one of the best multiplayer shooters out there.Even if you think Halo 3 was the most hyped game ever, this game will still grow on you and youll be happy to have it on your 360 collection. Whether you are a fan of the Halo series or not, this game still shouldn't be missed if you are looking for an type of mutliplayer fun.
