I really don't see why so many people ignore this game. It's good enough. It's not perfect, but I like it.

If you have ever seen films like Scooby-Doo: The Cyber Chase, then you may find the plot pretty predictable. Some kids get trapped inside a video game and have to complete it in order to get out. This is probably as close gamecube owners will get to the awesome-looking Heroes of Mana on the DS, as it is a mixture of real-time strategy and RPG battling. Except, the whole thing is on a slow, but irritatingly tense time limit, which not only changes the time of day (Affecting some monster's stats, etc), but also, when the meter hits zero, you lose. But when you jump into a battle, the timer pauses. The battles are somewhat similar to pokemon, except that you can only change your monsters before starting a level. Also in place of the PP meter in Pokemon is an Action Point meter, a line of stars that show how many times a monster can perform a certain action. If you choose to attack or use an item, it'll cost you 1 AP. 2 AP allows you to do a special attack (Power up all team monsters, attack all enemies, etc.), and, one of the much bigger gripes, spending all your action points will give you a chance to flee from the battle. The more you spend, the bigger chance you have of escape. Unfortunately, the escape mechanic also applies to the game's short, but hard challenge mode, so if you want to quit when all of your monsters are exhausted, you have to mash "Reset" on your cube. However, the good news is that graphically speaking, the battles are incredible, with the attacks having loads of detail to them, so when you activate polymerisation with 3 blue-eyes white dragons on your team, the screen spirals into a burst of light and in their place is the almighty blue eyes ULTIMATE dragon (Yami: "Oh, poopy!"), but the shining dragon does not appear, though. Even though the game only features somewhere aroung 50-ish (I never bothered to cound) monsters from the card game, some of the more famous ones, such as the likes of the red-eyes black dragon, dark magician girl, the time wizard, and even the infamous (*Shudders*) KURIBOH!!!!!!! (AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!), it just doesn't feel like enough to warrant enough references to the card game. Because of the range of monsters in the game, fans of the series will be entertained, but just don't expect much to do with the card game. It's not perfect, but I wouldn't object to a sequel.
