Never have I put down a Yu-Gi-Oh game involving cards. Until now.

One thing I will make clear about Reshef is that it is basically a rehash of Sacred Cards, which I thought was a fun little adventure to breeze through. But Sacred Cards was pretty fun. This isn't.

Reshef of Destruction is similar to Sacred Cards in every way, except for two things:

One, there is a better story. Or at least I think there is a better story. It just sounds better at the start of the game.

And two, the rewards system has been tweaked. Now you receive fewer of... everything each time you win a duel. This doesn't make the game harder; it just makes the game go longer. It also makes the game very, very repetitive, which leads immediately to boredom.

The dueling system is actually quite solid. It's the same as Sacred Cards, but with a few more cards.

The major problem with Reshef of Destruction is the rewards system. Each time you win a duel, you get a very, very little bit of everything. This little bit allows you to, over time, buy new cards and add better ones to your deck. The problem is, since most opponents only duel you once, you're forced to duel the same opponent over and over again.

Additionally, buying the cards you want is also a pain. It costs a lot to buy a single card. But if the card is not there, you can import the card's password into the card machine, then buy the card from Grandpa in his shop. In Sacred Cards, it was free to import a password into the machine. In Reshef of Destruction, it costs $1000. This is extremely annoying, as it forces me to duel the same opponent over and over again, import the password for the card, duel the same opponent over and over again, the actually buy the card. This killed the game for me.

The graphics and sound are actually pretty good. The music sounds nice and the environments look colorful. But that doesn't make the game worth a purchase in the least bit.

So, in conclusion, leave Reshef on the shelf, and pick up a different Yu-Gi-Oh game. Other than Destiny Board Traveller.
