One of the greatest Action RPGs ever created.

User Rating: 9.3 | Ys I + II TCD
The Ys series has been around for years, appearing on the Sega Master System, Famicom, Genesis, SNES, Turbo Duo, Saturn, Playstation 2, PC, MSX, Sharp x68000, and the PSP. The series has been constantly revived because it boasts rock solid gameplay, excellent character design, and arguably the greatest video game soundtrack of all time. Ys Book I & II for the Turbo CD/Duo is the finest version to reach American shores. Book I was released for Sega's Master system and for DOS based computers, but they lack the lush music of the Turbo CD version, not to mention the second quest of Adol Christin. The game plays quite a bit like Zelda with the twist that Adol runs into enemies to cause damage. The overworld graphics are solid, although inferior to the likes of Phantasy Star 2, but the overall look of the game is supplemented with beautiful character portraits to give the game a lovely storybook feel. The Ys soundtrack is rightly praised for it's stunning musical score. It is the standard by which all other video game soundtracks are judged. Overall, Ys Book I & II is a magnificent game and a worthy addition to the collections of all aficionados of classic RPGs.
