The TRUE Genesis Jones adventure

User Rating: 8 | Instruments of Chaos starring Young Indiana Jones GEN
After playing Last Crusade on the system, I was awaiting another Jones disappointment. I bought this game, even though I didn't care for the show, and half-expected to be slapped in the face again. Stupendously, I was pleasantly surprised.

The graphics are beautfiul in some areas and bland in others. But the Jones sprite is nicely done. The whip graphic is an ambitious attempt at a free-form whip attack. Sometimes, though, the whip will just go haywire. The enemies are unique to each area, with cool sprites to match. The title screen is a personal favorite graphical scene, with nice music added. But the gameplay is the more interesting department.

As I said, the whip is a brilliant tool to use, with the trademark whipswings thrown in. As a weapon, its use is limited. Luckily, you are also supplied with ample revolver rounds and hand grenades. A feeling of suspense is always in the air. It also requires some logic. It is better to fight sometimes, but also smarter to run in others. The run mechanic can be finicky, but is ulitmately useful. The boss battles are tricky, with the surroundings deadlier than the spy. The storyline is not too shabby itself.

It is a fresh tale for Jones, involving German spies. It goes like this:
German spies are meeting with weapon-designers around the world. Each designer has a state-of-the-art weapon to supply them. The Germans plan to include the artillery on a giant zeppelin of death. You must stop the meetings. If you do kill the spy, the Germans will not have a certain technology. At the end, you have to storm the zeppelin and destroy it. Any weapon you failed to stop the Germans from taking will be upgraded and deadlier.

Last Words: What Last Crusade should've been. A personal favorite Genesis game. I'd recommend it to platformer and adventure fans. Patience is required. Good luck finding it.
