Not quite as good as the original.

User Rating: 8.5 | Yoshi's Island DS DS
Well, I finally am playing Yoshi's Island DS, which I have waited to try for months - I played the original, and immediately fell in love with the graphics, the puzzle-platforming, the music, the level roster, minigames, and of course, the darling story. However, this latest installment doesn't score as high as the GBA original for a few reasons: One very simple mechanic which many players including myself took for granted, was the automatic-speed-up. e.g. After holding down a directional button, Yoshi would dash by himself. Now that I must press B to achieve this, pressing A at the same time to jump proves to be tricky and a little annoying. I'm also a bit flustered at the big screen-levels - with the bar splitting the two screens, it obstructs the view of the middle of the level- and therefore, makes the player prone to overshooting eggs. HOWEVER- Despite all of this, the game still manages to pull across the desired result- a dazzling graphics paint-job to the GBA platformer, with many new features (The multiple babies idea is awesome) and great graphics. All in all, a great game, but has some annoyances in store for Yoshi's Island GBA veterans like myself. I give it a solid 8.5 .
