Yoshi's Island DS is a great sequel to the classic Yoshi's Island, a new enhanced version of the original formula.

Yoshi's Island DS does everything a sequel should, bringing more of the classic fun to the new system using its new systematics to enhance the game and bringing forth a new concept into the old formula. Introducing other babies to alter the skills of Yoshi was a great addtion for the sequel, unfortunately thats the only thing the game enhanced. This game is almost the exact same as the first in terms of grapgics, sounds, level design, bosses, and even secrets and collectables. The story was just a weird twist from the original and like most Nintendo games doesn't really make sense or matter at all. The gameplay is still simple and fun, you control Yoshi with a baby on his back and with it comes special abilities and skills. The levels are a lot more challenging than the original but still not very hard. Unlike last time though, this game only has 5 chapters which take probably less than 6 hours to go through. The real challenge for this game was trying to get 100 points within each level, which makes everything just so much more difficult, even to the point of frustration and punishing difficulty. The graphics and sounds are still the same cute design as the original, using nice crayon and pastel style art, a lot more solid compared to the original (I like the more crayony design better). The music and sounds are the same, nothing much worth mentioning. The bosses are a lot of fun to fight, having the player find different ways and tactics to fight using different abilities, but in the end none of them are really challenging. All in all Yoshi's Island DS is a solid 2D platformer on the DS. Its fun, its simple, it proves to be a good sequel but falls short compared to the original because the lack of anything truly really fancy added in. But in the end thats probably a good thing for the "fancy" stuff might ruin a good series. Yoshi's Island DS is a great game that any Mario fan would truly love, one of the greatest games on the DS.
