Mahjong with Mario and Gang!
this game is geared towards asian particularly japanese, taiwanese, hong konger, malaysians, singaporeans and those who know the game of popular mahjong! i have played various versions of mahjong games but all were using PSP platfrom. i also recently tried a few of the ds; such as mahjong fight club -ds and jan sangoku musou. personally i feel that mahjong fight club both psp and ds versions are the BEST due to its graphical presentation. all mahjong games are the same with rules changes, some bacground music or sound effects changes, title color changes, etc but some are just purely focus on gameplay minus the crap of story background, chatting which just prolong the game time. this i find is time consuming.
for yakuman ds, it didn't lose out much to mfc-ds. just that it has the "auto" suggestion mode to "hint" to the player which tile to call, which tile to keep or discard so that the player's losses are minimised. it can be good for new player on this game but for those hardcore mahjong players, it can be disruptive and sway decision(s). of course there is an option to turn it off if the player bothers to go the option area and understand japanese.
mario and his gang add some funny noises here and there while playing. it didn't bother me much since i turn off the background music and at times off the volume. at least, there is no mario medley as compared to tetris ds. :P
in addition, it does allow player to choose which characters you want to compete in and be listed in the top 20 ranking. at the same time, it shows the profile of the player with radar chat - very similar to mfc. i love the graphical presentation of each player as a picture speaks a thousand words especially if one can't understand hiragana or katagana.
good game if you like playing with mario and his friends/foes and turning on wifi!
