CRASH, BANG AND WALLOP!

User Rating: 8.8 | XIII PS2
Spawned from the ages of comic books, XIII rises. For anyone who didn't know by the way, XIII is 13 in roman numerals. Okay, back to the game. In XIII, you take control of a man with amnesia who washes up on the shore of a harbour/dock. You're found by a life guard who is soon killed, with a key in your pocket, you kill some thugs then adventure by yourself to find out your identity. There are plenty of twists in the tale such as being arrested, assassinating numerical terrorists 1-20, meeting people from your life that you can't remember and finding that who you thought you were is actually dead, spooky. There are plenty of weapons on offer to blast your way through the story as well. Pistols, magnums, AK-47s, RPGs, as well as a variety of pickupable weapons like bricks and chairs. All of which are produced nicely in the comic book stlye. This style, on the characters, looks equally as good. Characters look comicy, with the traditional KABOOM word for explosions and the TAP TAP TAP of walking display as well as additional pictures appearing in screen for distant action or action in another room. Music and SFX are also in traditional comic book style, with music for BUM BUM BUM surpise and SIRENS run away. Once you work your way through the various difficulties of story mode, there is also a multiplayer mode to challenge your friends to. There are the traditional modes such as capture the flag and deathmatch with new ones such as CHASE, where you chase a skeleton character and whoever kills him the most in the time limit wins, but watch out, if he touches you, you die and respawn somewhere else. All in all, this is a pretty good 2/3/Comic D game, lol, which delivers all the thrills of a good comic book, even if the graphics may look a bit polygonish a bit.
