A great way to end a series.

User Rating: 10 | Xenosaga Episode III: Zarathustra wa Kaku Katariki PS2
Ok, so I finished the whole series of Xenosaga and I have to say that it was the best series that I have played in my whole life. They kind of left it at the end like the same thing could happen again but I know that there wont be another game about it. :( Some of it is really confusing and I will write it in the fallowing paragraph, but read it only if you want to know the ending and the stuff that I think is really confusing. SPOILER

Ok, if you didn't know this Xenosaga is based on the book of Revelations or also known as Apocalypse (spelling?).

At the end, the last boss it's called Zarathustra (spelling?) and it's like a clock of the universe that keeps track of the time.

To what I understood, Chaos was like the re-incarnation, or something of the sort, of Jesus Christ and KOS-MOS was Mary Magdalene. Chaos has the power of anima (don't ask me what it is because I don't understand it my self) and he could do something with that power, but I think that it said that it could also hurt him.

So Mary had to seal away his power in12 different vessels called the Vessels of Anima, those vessels are used to pilot the special robot suits called E.S.'s (I forgot what they stand for) by channeling the special power and only special individuals can use those suits (everyone that you can have in your party are those people that can use them. Isn’t that convenient? LOL :P ).

Shion is the key to unlock the dormant Mary inside of KOS-MOS. According to the game Zarathustra also has the power to rewind time, and that was what Wilhelm (the Anti-Christ) wanted so that the universe would never end and people would just be living the same life over and over and over and over and over again for all eternity.

According to the game's data base that gets extra info after you beat the game, this also lead to the belief that Wilhelm might have already rewinded (spelling?) time before and since there is no way to know for sure it could be the 1000th time that this could've already happen since the name of the game does contain the word "saga" in it.

The game also said that if that already happened then the wills of the people might have been strong enough to over come the power of Zarathustra and where able to move forward and get out of that eternal cycle.

In the end Jin (Shion's brother) dies trying to protect Nephilm and Chaos and KOS-MOS sacrifices herself to destroy a Gnosis so that Chaos wouldn't get killed. But KOS-MOS’ sacrifice was in vain, Chaos and Nephilm also died because it was needed for them if they wanted to safe the universe for another 10 of thousands of years since the end of the universe is inevitable and can only be slowed down not stopped.

But part KOS-MOS' body survived and she goes off drifting in space and she was still alive even if only part of her was remaining. Then you can hear Chaos' voice saying something like "I guess that I still exist as long as the universe desires it, as well as you. It will be really long trip, so in the mean time rest". Then KOS-MOS says "Thank you Chaos, good night". And then she just drifts off in the space.

I think that the ending implies that the same thing will happen again in the future and KOS-MOS will be part of the same thing again. The others live and Shion and Allen finally get together at last after what happened to them in the last stage of the game and they go off to find Lost Jerusalem (it's the name of planet Earth after it was evacuated for some reason) since they made a promise to Chaos that they would find it. The only thing is that the UMN (Unus Mundus Network) no longer works and they can't just transport themselves anymore, so they only have normal flight and they have really slim chances of finding Lost Jerusalem. MOMO stays behind to try and build another form of a network to help Shion and the others.

END OF SPOILER

So that was the ending and the really complicated background to the story, I think that they kind of left it in an open ended so that there is a potential for a sequel and I hate it when they do that.

I really liked the game play, they changed it again but this one is much easier than the one that was used on Episode 2. This time you don’t have a button for an attack, all you do id chose your attacks from a list like a normal RPG. This is far better because you don’t get confused on what button is which attack since you just choose the attack that you want.

I REALLY liked all the CG scenes that they had in this game. The graphics have really improved since the first game. And they re-designed the characters for this game as they have been doing on the other ones. They made a MAJOR change in KOS-MOS. I liked how they made her look at the beginning when she was fighting T-elos and Omega. But one of the best changes that I liked was what they did to the ES’s (the robot suits that they use). They all made them look WAY better and they even look like the person that is using it. I was most impressed with the one that they made for Jin (the swords man AKA Shion’s brother). That was my favorite of all the ES’s. The sound was awesome, there you could here and really feel the mood of the character. Some characters had a major attitude problem (Shion for the most part) and you could really feel how she was feeling when she spoke. The attack sound and even the background music were great and I think that it when well with the levels and stages.

I think that this game was defiantly worth the wait and the money. I really liked the ending and everything about it.

Overall, I give this game a 10/10 for being the best game that I have ever played. I recommend this game and the series to everyone. Thanks for reading.
