From the first moment I played Xenogears, I loved it. I love the whole customisation features offered by Mech games like armored core...and combined with a great story and RPG gameplay (I adore RPGs BTW) I knew it was going to be one for the books. What I didn't expect when I started this game was the depth of the story which in my opinion is the best video game story of all time. The cinematics and the arrangement of the story really took me in, at parts, I was really moved by the story and I was really mesmerized by it. Although the story is fantastical its got such human elements to it, that its more reminiscent of a novel than a video game where mostly everything gets dumbed down for greater appeal. This story was mature, I'm not talking mature in the way they display sex, but also in a way where relationships mature and happen in a very real way...not just the romances either, but the interactions between characters. In some cases you understand why people feel loyalty for one another more than just because the story says so. The development of the main character is also the best I've ever come across in any videogame...In the end you just feel like you know the character and feel like you have a kinship towards him. Graphics, sound, gameplay, fun factor all seemed to be geared towards not only the story, but in making the story better. This game is a pure story vehicle with some genuinely fun asides. It never leaves you bored and always leaves you wanting more of everything. The graphics although poor by today's standards pushed the playstation to its limits, and did the job to great satisfaction. I think that this game deserves a lot more credit that its getting, and deserves to be hailed as one of the best games ever made from a story standpoint...if not the best. I will never forget the experience of playing this game. Playing it through for the first time to me is like reading a great book or hearing some great piece of music for the first time...it makes a part of it stay with you and makes you evaluate everything else on that basis from then on.
