Perfection Marred

User Rating: 7 | XCOM: Enemy Within X360

With the new expansion XCOM: Enemy Within the talented team at Fireaxis bring a distinct experience that brings the game close to the perfection of the original X-COM while remaining it's own beast.

While I agree with the Gamespot review for the most part, unfortunately the Xbox version brings back the bugs in a big way and introduces a whole new slew of bugs and glitches. As of the two days I have played XCOM I have had two system freezes and one perpetual loading screen, while this was present in Enemy Unknown this time around it feels more frequent, all while introducing some really bad texture pop-in and some really wonky glitches. In EU you felt the impact of a well placed shot and watched as your enemies or friends slumped down. Now sometimes you get that close in, only to have to wait comically a second-in a half for the hit to register. Which then bodies have a way of rocketing off in random ways and in one case a cheeky Thin Man launched his corpse at a soldier of mine and exploded right on top him, while funny it leaves you with a odd feeling. These issues have popped up in other ways with one sniper using the grappling hook and winding up in a completely wrong place (Still not sure if that is a bug or a like a percentage chance of happening kind of thing) or weird rag doll effects in the setup screens.

While small these bugs detract from the experience and while Enemy Within brings in a whole lot of positive change, it also brings negative ones. Ultimately this brings frustration in a game where frustration should come from within the game not in playing it. While I whole heartedly support and love this game and frankly suggest you buy it, know it will probably play better on PC and it will take a lot of patience and love to deal with lose ends. I will warn that maybe this issue might not be fixable with a patch and is more of a hardware problem in the 360's case.
