I haven't seen any footage of units in buildings or outdoor maps where you have to assault UFO's. Hope they didn't forget to include that!

 @ZakMcKracken

 Good question, hope they answer with a yes, the UFO assault was a great mission.

ufo aftermath was ok as a "clone" for the original title, the others sucked in the "afterxxxxxx" serie.I hope this one, which they say is the official next title for the XCOM will be ok, so far i am dissapointed.btw, all, check the Xenonauts : http://www.xenonauts.com/

 You really got in for the UFO afterxxxx games, you always mention them in comments and yes they where pretty average, the only invation they had was the 360 rotating battlescape.

What will really put this game in the bag for me is if they offer a cooperative campaign mode.  I think the idea that you and another person could both be controlling bases and squads would be a very unique take on the game.  Add in that you could have cooperative battles and it would be g to the g.

At this point,  the only thing that worries me is that the campaign will be slightly less replayable in favor of pushing you to multiplayer and that squad sizes are going to be small.  Sending out an avenger with like 16 dudes and 2 tanks was one of the highlights of that game,  While it doesnt need to be that excessive, 8-10 man battles are truer to the original.

Will you be able to play this game in a co-op mode?

GOTY! I've been excited since I heard about the remake. Kudos to Firaxis for having the guts to make it turn-based.

Ok what about things like Line of Sight?  Darkness & Light, Smoke grenades, glow sticks, multi-level maps, etc..  ?

 @Gwarpup In 6 minutes, it's hard to fit everything in. But yes--line of sight is a concern; there are smoke grenades; and verticality is a factor. I am not sure of any darkness and light mechanic, however.

This is how they should've done the Warhammer 40k games.

 @Duke_51

 It's being put on hold , too many FPS's on the market and nothing to do with the classic orginal game play, except for cashing in on its name.

 LOL NICE THIS COMPANY STEAL UFO2000 SYSTEM! Ufo2000 a indie open code game multiplayer x-com, they use this system!!! And its fantastic, but they should at last mention the ufo2000, for respect of the developers.

 @underlaw No. It's based off of the game UFO: Enemy Unknown. Actually, chances are the ufo2000 game you're talking about is based off of UFO: Enemy Unknown too. Do your research.

 @KLonso  LOL man, i play ufo since they come 1994.

 Ufo2000 is the first try to make a multiplayer game using UFO game. I TOLD that UFO2000 INVENTED this system of 1000,2000 points of use, to balance multiplayer game. This company steal entire this system, and thats it.

 7.k  Foreva!

 @underlaw As was mentioned, point-based systems for games like this pre-date UFO2000. By no means did it invent this system, even if you think it did. And certain board games used such systems before computer games existed. This is a common mechanic--it was not invented by UFO2000. "Do your research" indeed ;)

 @Atheosis  I will not argue, think what u want. have the same concept its one thing, copy exactly the system is another.

 @underlaw Point-based systems for competitive turn based games have been around for decades...

By the way this is basically turn-based wargaming (Warhammer 40k, Warmachine, and the like) in video game form for those making comparisons to Japanese games.  This is very Western actually.

firaxis and 2k games please don't lose each other to the money that EA will throw at you to destroy your game.

Fun fact: When me and my friends played the original (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) it was called "UFO: Enemy Unknown" in Europe. In America it was called XCOM: UFO Defense.

I guess Firaxis went "best of both worlds" with this name! Man, I can't wait to play this.

 @wertigo

Extra double-bonus fun fact: The original game (and indeed, the whole franchise) was heavily influenced by the scenario presented by Gerry Anderson's (Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Thunderbirds, etc) first foray into live-action television drama - the '70's classic, UFO.

I know this, because I predate the aforementioned dinosaurs. :/

This will be a lot of fun, X-Com always needed a multiplayer option and it looks like they've done it right :)

It looks really interesting. This is like western version of Super Robot Wars with lots of potential.
