- "Surprisingly good"
My first time playing an Xcom game. I'm very please to say that it was an amazing experience. I played it on Ironman normal difficulty on my first played through.
In a market saturated with game that are "easy" and are designed to give you power illusion. X-com definitely stand out as special. It really made me realize how games nowadays really lack consequences in their gameplay concept, as in, no matter what you do your penalty is never more than a few secs of reload.
But not Xcom, it is challenging and unforgiving. A simple mistake can cost you, your best veteran life. It give the game a sense of consequences. If someone die, is most likely because of your fault as you rush toward the unknown without a care.
Here is one of my best memories of the game. *MINOR SPOILER ALERT*
In one mission, I was assaulting an UFO ship . Everything went fine until the last room. I rushed into the room only to find 3 insect alien waiting in ambush right next to me. Those enemies proceeded to butcher my men and turn fallen ones into zombies. In the end I was left with only 1 Sniper. I had to use the sniper to kill all the insect and the dead comrade who then turn to zombies and kill each others. The mission was successful but at the cost of all of my best solders.
END SPOILER
All in all it was a really good game. I highly recommend this game to anyone who are interested in strategy games
