He told me with so much enthusiasm, and I just sat there with my eye twitching, barely holding a fake smile.

    WHY?

Why are they pulling this crap? They should've seen what happened to Syndicate. Am I the only one who finds this incredibly sketchy at best?

The FPS was actually announced before the this one was.

Could be interesting if it was strategic somehow.

Your Gamestop guy is clueless...It isn't even a FPS anymore...They transformed it into a TPS, and there are actually rumors that it may indeed be on the road to cancelled.

You're surprised by this? There was a time when this was the only new XCOM announced. Imagine how the hardcore fans of the original (me) felt hearing of a new XCOM only to have a giant steamy dump taken on our dreams.

Then Firaxis swooped in and saved the day. Gotta love those guys.

They made such a good game that I got my buddy to buy it and he fell in love with the game. All he normally plays is football, soccer & hockey games. He thinks aliens are cheesy and won't touch Halo or Gears. Somehow I convinced him to try XCOM. After playing the demo he immediately bought the game and was obsessed with it. He also normally NEVER buys DLC, but will be buying all the DLC for XCOM. That's how good the game is. It enlightens people.

Why? Cod, $$$, bros.. oh and to piss off us oldschool fans
It `s going to be cancelled - I`m 79.536 % sure of this, as it has become a joke of a bad joke of a game at this point..

#Semi random fact : Firaxis reaffirmed my faith in the gaming industry

also Cosmic Mayhem; you deserve a medal for your valiant efforts (no srsly)

The new word on the street is that it's a tactical TPS which sounds sort of Tom Clancy-ish (ordering different units into position or to do other actions). Plus, 2K is flirting with the idea of making it a half-priced download instead of a boxed retail game.

Also, if I remember, there was still all the base stuff that's in the strategy XCOM game.

I don't know. It may be crap, or it may be an interesting take on the series. 2K Marin is doing it, so there's hope that it will be at least interesting.

The X-Com franchise is known for dipping into other genres. There was an X-Com FPS back in the day, and there was also a flight simulator called X-Com: Interceptor.

Bottom line is that as long as they continue making the full on strategy games, like Enemy Unknown, I don't care what other genres they do.

This FPS game shouldn't concern anyone. It isn't like they made it INSTEAD of Enemy Unknown. They made them both. So I don't care either way.

It actually seems cool if they stick to the concept from when they announced it years ago. It's going to be something of an origin story for the XCOM program. You're gonna play as an FBI agent in the 50s, with several different partners who can get injured/have to sit out missions like in the strategy games. It seems like it's going to have a major focus on slower paced atmosphere building and investigation as opposed to strapping on some ghost armor and blowing away hordes of thin men.

Although I gave it a hard time earlier in this topic I am still a fairly open minded individual who will give the game a chance. At the time when it was the only new XCOM announced it was very disappointing to watch the trailer.

If it gets decent reviews I will buy it.

Thing is, whenever they dip out of their standard genre...it is a massive failure.

I'd much rather they spend the team and $$$ on making another game like EU, thats what got them successful, why abandon the userbase so fast? Theres a REASON people bought this game, because it was different....and not like every other shooter game coming out

No, I have tissues. Tissues for fans, when they cry because a game did poorly, forcing them to close up shop. Ok, no, it hasn't happened yet, but it can. I will keep my bottom cheeks firm until then.

It's a totally different developer, and I believe that it was announced (and developement started) before XCOM: EU.

Well you're definitely right about that! But like I said, it doesnt take away from the normal, full on strategy games, and they arent being made INSTEAD of the strategy games. So it doesnt really bother me. As long as they still make the classic style xcom games, im happy.

Sure it does, it takes resources that could be dedicated to the strategy genre of the game. When it's clear that it doesn't work when they dip out of their standard genre, it really doesn't make sense to keep trying it over & over and taking potential resources from a project you know is successful.
