E3 06: Sega pockets snooker, pool games

World Snooker Championship 2007 coming to PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 this fall; PSP sinks World Snooker Challenge 2007.

Sega today announced that World Snooker Championship 2007--called World Pool Championship 2007 in the US--is going next gen and will be released on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will also be available on the PlayStation 2, with all three versions scheduled for release in the UK and North America in autumn 2006.

The game is being developed by Blade Interactive and will boast 104 top snooker players and ten official tournaments, all modelled for the 2007 season. The game will also boast a pool mode with 9-ball and 8-ball competitions, along with 10 major pool tournaments and a trick-shot championship.

The addition of the pool feature has let Blade create a Golden Cue mode, which will mix different cue sports into one match. This lets gamers challenge others to a mix of pool and snooker over a number of frames. Further advancements have also been made in the create-a-player mode, which will let users customize their avatars even more.

A PlayStation Portable version of the game, titled World Snooker Challenge 2007--aka World Pool Challenge 2007 in North America--will also be available in the autumn.

The only way to make the game interesting and marketable is to make the physics and trick shot contest amazing

amen dwmorrow, but some people DO like it. just look at those crazy peoplel in Japan. They have games like "lets wait in line" and "lets count sand" j/k but they have games where you serve fast food and stuff.......give massages....it's just plain weird.

If I want to play ping pong or shoot pool, I'll actually go do it in Real Life™. The reason football, baseball, basketball and racing games are so popular is because these things aren't as easy to do, comparatively speaking. But ping pong? Pool? Where's my next-gen tiddlywinks sim? I play video games for escapism, not to do mundane crap.

When are they going to learn that no one wants a pool game. The game have not changed from the 80's versions as the physics will be the same. it's going to be as bad as ping pong from rockstar.

Might be fun to shoot some pool with people frm around the world. Although... seeing how the game isn't going to be too taxing on the processor I would hope that the graphics will be "close to lifelike"
