360 MLB patch steps up to plate

Freeze issue resolved with downloadable update for MLB 2K6 for the Xbox 360; corrupted cache isolated as problem.

San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds is finally starting to hit home runs, Detroit Tigers first baseman Chris Shelton has cooled off from an unexpectedly white-hot start, and after winning nine of their first 11, the New York Mets are back to playing .500 ball. Things are finally getting back to normal in baseball. So, too, are things with the Xbox 360 version of MLB 2K6 from 2K Sports.

The publisher has released a patch for the game that solves the freezing issue that caused games to lock up. Gamers need only be connected to Xbox Live with either a Gold or Silver membership in order to download the update. 2K Sports is currently working on a solution to get the patch in the hands of non-Live-enabled users. In the meantime, they can use 2K's suggested temporary solution.

2K also revealed the source of the problem. According to an administrator's post on the MLB 2K6 forums, the problems arose when Xbox 360s were shut down during a game. The cached info then became corrupted, and could lock up the game the next time it was played.

MLB 2K6 for the Xbox 360 is rated E for Everyone and retails for $59.99. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

At least patches are available. When it comes to bugs like Soul Calibur 3's memory card erasing glitch, you just have to live with it.

This game shouldn't have been released if they "knew" it had major issues. They should have kept it pushed back than trying to be "cute" and think oh well...no foul..we'll just put a patch out later on in the month.
