E3 '07: Xbox Live wraps up E3

Microsoft's Bringing It Home campaign concludes on day three of trade show; GHII tracks, game demos highlight week's offerings.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Attempting to lend an as-if-you-were-there feel to this year's E3 Media and Business Summit, Microsoft's "Bringing It Home" campaign has been in full swing this week. While trailers and video dominated Microsoft's offerings, the online service also saw a substantive amount of demos, dashboard themes, and picture packs.

Officially kicking off Wednesday, Xbox Live was updated with a number of trailers. Included among these were teasers for highly anticipated games such as BioWare's Mass Effect, Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey, and Firaxis' Civilization Revolution. Also added was a dashboard theme and picture pack for Ensemble's upcoming real-time strategy game set in the Halo universe, Halo Wars, for 150 Microsoft points ($1.87) and 80 Microsoft points ($1.00), respectively. Picture packs were also added for The Idol Master for 200 Microsoft points ($2.50) and Double Dragon for 100 Microsoft points ($1.25).

Day two of Bringing It Home saw the addition of several more trailers for big-name games. While not as formidable as the first day's offerings, previews added to the service included Assassin's Creed, Eternal Sonata, and BlackSite: Area 51. Microsoft also made its press conference available for download, as well as a making-of video for Sierra Entertainment's The Bourne Conspiracy.

The last day of Microsoft's campaign resembled more of the first, with several dashboard themes and picture packs highlighting the update. John Woo's Stranglehold and Microsoft's first-party Vampire Rain both received dashboard themes and picture packs. Both dashboard themes run for 150 Microsoft points ($1.87) each, while Stranglehold's picture pack costs 100 Microsoft points ($1.25) and Vampire Rain's cost 60 Microsoft points ($0.75). A picture pack for Need for Speed ProStreet was also available for 150 Microsoft points ($1.87). Not short on video content, trailers were added for Skate, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, and Stranglehold, among others.

Microsoft also added several demos and downloads to Xbox Live this week. In addition to Blue Dragon, NCAA 08, and Ace Combat 6, demos for Stuntman Ignition, The Bigs, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix were made available for download. Harmonix's Guitar Hero II also received a new set of downloadable tracks, with covers being added for the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated," Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," and Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming." The fourth track pack runs for 500 Microsoft points ($6.25).

ooJmong, what are YOU smoking> PS2? lol, what great games are left coming for that? The PS3 event was basically bringing attention to MGS4 and...well, yeah. And Home? What a joke. Sounds like something for losers and socialites, not gamers. Just look at games like All-Pro 2k8. Are they having Gamestop tournaments on PS3 online? No, only XBL.

That while I agree that XBL is the best online service to date it isn't fair to say that the others are completely out of league. It seems that a couple of people have a misunderstanding on the Sony Network. You can download demos, game extras, trailers, and even arcade games just like you can on XBL. The selection just isn't nearly as complete as is on XBL, but then again Sony released their system like a year later, I mean I bought a 360 at launch and they had close to nothing on the service then except demos for launch titles. So stop bashing Sony, I'm going to be downloading the Heavenly Sword demo this thursday. As for demos on XBL I was really looking forward to a demo of Mass Effect or Bioshock but it seems neither have been announced, bummer.

XBL kicks the crap outta Sony's Online (service?). Playing demos can be very funa and entertaining. It is also the best way to decide whether to get a game or not. I can spend all weekend just playing the newly added demos and watching some E3 videos... try doing that with the PS3. I do hate paying for points though...

I have never seen so many crybabys. MS has revolutionized gaming by way of online and anyone that says otherwise is full of crap. You should all be grateful that not only you pay to play online with millions of people, you are also getting to play demos of great games yet to be realeased for free. When before you had to go and pay 5 to 6 bucks for xbox mag. just for a demo disk that usually had worst demos than what they are offering for free. STOP THE CRYING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!

First off I would just like to say MS brought XBL home. PSN's HOME has nothing on XBL. (Playedstation Network has 950,000 subscribers and it's free vs MS's XBL with 10 million subscribers / you get what you pay for...)
Anyways Blue Dragon is amazing. Stuntman 2 is great, and Ace combat is HOT! and all of it was free free!

    PS3 is in trouble.

I can't believe how many people are complaining about demos. How do you complain about something that's free? Also to the guy that said the Blue Dragon demo was over in 2 minutes is lying. The Blue Dragon demo lasts for an hour.

I have my fair share of gripes with Microsofts point system... even tho I buy tons of crap, I at least appreciate the little things like previewing what yer purchasing over the xbox website. Sure beats blind buying, but the points should be slighty... just a tad bit adjusted

Seems like Xbox Live adds a great deal to the argument for getting a 360...
