FFXIII teaser counts down to Wednesday

The Final Fantasy gamer is a force to be reckoned with, as Square Enix fully knows. However, even the Tokyo-based developer may have been slightly taken aback by the sheer volume of outcry following its reveal that Final Fantasy XIII won't make it outside of Japan on any platform in 2009. Don't call it a delay, though; the trailer announcing the 2009 release window was shown in Japan as part of the Tokyo Game Show, after all.

With the Final Fantasy faithful in North America and Europe twiddling their thumbs until 2010--at the earliest--one question worth asking is: What is going on with FFXIII, anyway? The answer to that query may be less than a week away, as Square Enix has updated its official FFXIII Web site with a countdown timer set to expire on Wednesday at 8 a.m. PST.

Along with the timer, the site bears a teaser message of questionable value. "The countdown has begun," reads the site. "A new vision will soon be revealed to the world. Register now to ensure you're there for the unveiling."

Of course, just because a developer is offering up a nugget of tantalizing info, that doesn't mean it's going to be deets that most people want to hear. Not too long ago, Konami was teasing its latest, greatest Metal Gear offering, igniting a firestorm of speculation ranging from Metal Gear Solid 4 confirmed for the Xbox 360 to a third Metal Gear Acid being en route. As it would turn out, the teaser was for a new iPhone/iPod game, Metal Gear Solid Touch.

No turn-base, yeah you can blame today's gaming market for that. Real-time RPG's are out-selling the turn-based ones, especially the last 5 years or so.

Great, can't wait for this game. Another year will still be well worth the wait. To TitaniumTitan: Why should they not make anymore just because YOU don't want to play them? :p
Many people have enjoyed the Final Fantasy games since VII, and they will enjoy any more that are released in the future.

The combat looks amazing! all the running forward, attack, jump back, wait and repeat 10x... Now that is excitement! Who wants to play a game that has life like combat and physics when you could play a game with "sword guns" and turn based combat that has been around sense the NES? I'm all about waiting for a game like this after it was announced 4 FREEKING YEARS AGO! Number 7 should have been the FINAL FF game.

That trailer was great. It showed alot of in-game fighting, and the battles appear to flow very fast paced as well as smoothly.

The Euro countdown site also works now, but I wonder what that 65 day counter meant.

Whats the point of setting up a countdown for Europe and then release a Japanese speaking trailer. There could at least be subtitles.
