Update: Online Co-op
Posted: Nov 4, 2008 12:21 pm PT
On the day that Fable II arrived in stores, Microsoft released a free update that added online co-op play to the game. It's worth noting, however, that only the player who is hosting the game gets to use their character from the single-player adventure.

Molyneux is definitely a salesman and he knows what he's doing. Still both games are thoroughly entertaining though flawed. Fable 1 was good but not everything we expected. Fable 2 took the strengths of the first game and built upon them to an impressive degree. Of course it is also very glitchy. So here's hoping that the same progression we saw from 1 to 2 will be evident when we play 3. I'm intrigued by this decision element.

Although Fable 1 and Fable 2 both were great games Peter Molyneux is a master of hyping a game up. We get all excited about so many features that never actually get put into the game like he states. I just hope that Fable 3 isn't over hyped by him once again and then we get let down by what isn't in the game.

episodically? that means you have to buy the other episodes to advance, it better not still be $60 for the two episodes when a complete game costs that much. Importing 'aspects' of your Fable 2 character is pretty neat but who knows what 'aspects' will be uploaded. Seems like fun but could flop with having to buy new episodes, but it could allow them to release new episodes instead of expansions. It will be neat to be able to test the game first without having to buy it but I'm a Fable freak and will probably get it anyway lol.

Fable:TLC was one of the best games i have played in my life, and during Fable II i really lost faith in the series. You cannot die, there is no armour, and you can complete the game with your eyes closed. Hopefully Fable can reclaim its former glory with III.

Does anyone know a date of release?? I can't wait.. I haven't stopped playing Fable I and II.

I like the guy, but he always seems to have his head in the clouds and over hypes everything. I wasn't overly impressed with Fable 2 (especailly when compared to other RPGs) and am not particulary excited about the prospect of Fable 3.

please give us armor in this game.. I hated the fact that they just took away armors in fable 2. Fable : TLC was probably one of the best games i've played, but fable 2 sure had it's flaws even though it was an enjoyable game

sounds like a sandbox game, compleatly different from the fable series just with the same style in graphics. it also sounds like my life as a king

ANd I'll never pay for this game in epsiodes. I'd rather wait a year til they come out with the whole thing in one package that I can pay a reasonable price for. Breaking it into episodes and charging points for each one is just another way for Microsoft to screw gamers out of their money.

  • Dasim64

Mylesblasonato, it's pretty obvious by your comment that you didn't watch many of the Fable 2 speeches that PM gave, some only a month or two before release, where he was still talking about features that were left out of the game. I once made a post on another forum where I linked all the YouTube vids where PM talked about things that were never in the game. And it's not like he would say, "we would like to do this". No, it was "this is going to be in the game" and when the game came out it wasn't there and that's why people call him a liar now. He makes lots of promises and most of them never happen. He's done the same thing for both Fable games. Now most people have no faith in much of what he says.

Fable 3 has to be open world or you can forget it. What really annoyed me about Fable 2 was the loading screens!!

  • Chris-Parker

    Posted Oct 23, 2009 2:37 am PT

Joeywan. I dont think PM has enough resources to fufill his vision/dream. He needs huge development teams the likes of ubisoft montreal and Rockstar to meet his ambition. Give him that then we might actually see a great game.

Mr. Molyneux's heart is in the right place, he just sets his sights too damn high! He's a dreamer. Nothing wrong with that, but he has to expect a lot of criticism when he doesn't deliver. It's OK, though. He'll get it right eventually. One day, his dreams will come to pass. It's good that he keeps trying.

Fable 1 was great! the graphics were all there and dialog was perect. Fable 2 was a big disappointment for me. dialog wasn't done well, dialog Never had a really good flow to it and the fighting machanics weren't nearly as good as Fable 1. Also i would have liked to see the characters "good" and "evil" side be bigger and more of a physical change in the last Fable 2 game. Hopefully Fable 3 will diliver in game length and flowing dialog. OH and a better ending with a big boss fight. The final ending of fable 2 SUCKED

It took f2 so long since it had to be made on a new system and it had a completely new engine. F3 is going to have the same engine

Every time I get my hopes up for what molenuex sais about his games and every time they are dashed on the rocks. What Ive come to expect from him is simple mediocracy. There are alot of aspects in the games that need to be fixed, such as the simple and clunky combat system. At their core the games have that potential that molenuex has been promising us but hes yet to come close to reaching it.
Please, please, please dont just rinse and reuse fable 1 again, spit shine it to a better sheen and call it a new game. I want to be proved wrong.
I know hes going to go ahead and promise something as extreme as finding actual love in a video game again and Im betting my 60 dollars on the end result not being anywhere close, again. That being said Ill no doubt buy the Fable 3 and hate myself for it but I cant help it hes so charismatic I just keep coming back.

  • mylesblasonato

    Posted Sep 24, 2009 6:18 pm PT

Why are people talking about Molenuex not keeping his promise and biting off more than he can chew?
Everything he promised for Fable 2 was in Fable 2. You and the media overhyped how good that gameplay was gonna be. Blame yourselves.

Fable 3 will have what Molenuex says it will but wether it's gonna be good or bad only time will tell.

    Cheers,
    Myles Blasonato.

Fable II only just came out this year, why don't they make a few more expansion packs before making a whole new Fable III game?

There are ideas and there is time management. For a game to be fun its core ideas have to executed as well as possible within a dead line - quality over quantity. Having 3 million great ideas and not managing to realise any of their potential does not make a game fun to play. Peter has lots of ideas but i don't think time management is his strength. An idea should not lag behind the game it was promised to by 1 or 2 sequels and I don't see the Fable franchise catching up any time soon.

Yay Molyneux! His heart is always in the right place at least, trying create new ways of doing things is constructive, even if those ways don't always work out. At least he isn't producing generic FPS's. Hell we might even get an awesome game by the time Fable 5 rolls around.

Whatever. Trying to sell a dying franchise. Fable began with some hype, but is now wandering around without a point.

I'm not so sure anymore, I think Peter Molyneux has some good, possibly great ideas, but I'm beginning to doubt if he knows thing one about creating a game. I think the man is a great visionary but tends to bite off more in that little mind of his than he can chew. I think we owe most if not all of our admiration to the team at Lionhead, I'm starting to wonder what kind of masterpiece those guys could deliver without PM's "grand vision"

  • TheHappyCamper

    Posted Sep 19, 2009 3:21 am PT

I was relieved to see a bunch of like minded posts. That being basically: Peter Molynuex is a great, genuine, visonary designer whos ideas never quite work out like he says. And the strange things is, I still fall for them! You would think by now I would learn to disregard most of what he says, and let his games speak for themselves. But he always seems so proud of his new ideas I cant help but get swept up along for the ride. Then what happens?... Fable 3 comes out and we all realize touch = failure.

I agree with Nosferatu2894 moreso than I have with anything prior.
Lionhead, in particular, Peter Molyneux sets up fans for nothing but disapointment and a significantly lighter wallet >
