Microsoft shows its Hold 'Em hand

Xbox Live Arcade poker game now available on Marketplace, full version free to download until 1 a.m. Friday, 800 points ($10) thereafter.

In July, TikGames' Xbox Live Arcade poker game Texas Hold 'Em was reported to be free to download and play on the Xbox 360. The following week, a Microsoft rep denied that. That was apparently a double-bluff, as the game arrived on the Xbox 360 Marketplace at 1 a.m. this morning, and as originally reported, was downloadable at no charge.

It won't stay that way for long, however. Microsoft has said that Texas Hold 'Em will only be free to download for the first 48 hours. Starting at 1 a.m. Friday, Microsoft will start charging users 800 points ($10) a pop to download the game.

Texas Hold 'Em features persistent bankrolls attached to each Xbox Live gamertag, so players who bet recklessly and come out on the losing end will have to go back to the lower-stakes tables to work their way back into the games with heavy action.     If you download it before friday you will have it for free forever. Or until you get yourself another harddrive.

    jayt684 if u get ur harddrive now just go to another 360 and get it from there. it will save on ur drive and u can put it on ur 360 when u get it back.

    Game Is good. Hope Camera support will come. Im confused, will I have to pay to play after friday or is my free download free thereafter the cutoff date?

    Don't know why anyone wouldn't download this while its free, even if you don't like it its a free acrade game and I doubt we'll get many more free ones. Game rocks too.

    i'm more of a blackjack man myself, but they did a good job on this one. actually fun. not worth $10 though...glad it's free for now.

    The game is selling for free because there has to be enough people and interest for someone to pay $10 to play Hold'Em online. And now, come Friday people that purchase this title will have plenty of people to play poker with, which I doubt wouldn't have been the case w/o this promotion.

    Good for Microsoft, good for XBox Livers, even good for the people that pay $10.00 for it.

    wow i really expected this game to release for 400pts. ($5) I guess its still a pretty good deal even at $10 but geeze gimme a break.

    Finally something free from the MarketPlace... I'll never pay for anything off of there.. But at least I get one free game off of it now, and I think I will enjoy this one. Downloaded it this morning, I'll probably play it later.

    Wow! Free is great. I think they just want to see what kind of a load there servers can handle.
