THQ drops word of Tetris Evolution
Publisher brings classic puzzler to Xbox 360 with customizable presentation elements, new game modes.
In 2005, THQ sued The Tetris Company for breaking its agreements with the publisher and giving the rights to the classic puzzle game to Nintendo for Tetris DS, causing THQ's own DS edition of the game to be scrapped. The two parties settled their dispute last year, and THQ emerged from the fracas with the rights to make a Tetris game on the Xbox 360.
Today the publisher exercised those rights with the announcement of Tetris Evolution for Microsoft's console, the first THQ-published Tetris game since 2003's Tetris Worlds on the original Xbox. As for what the title's evolution entails, THQ said it is adding new gameplay modes, customizable presentation aspects (themes, skins, icons, and music), and online play for up to four players.
Tetris Evolution is slated for release next month.
