Pearl Jam Rock Band project due next year

MTV Games and Seattle grunge metal troupe open up voting fan-selected live edition of Harmonix's rhythm game.

When Pearl Jam reissued its seminal album Ten in March, MTV Games and Harmonix collaborated with the grunge rockers to offer a playable version through Rock Band. Now, MTV Games and Harmonix are teaming up with Pearl Jam once more on a "Pearl Jam Rock Band project" that will feature live cuts from the band's entire catalog. Platforms for the project were not revealed, though it is slated to arrive in 2010.

The exact nature of the Pearl Jam Rock Band project remains a mystery, with neither MTV Games nor Pearl Jam giving any indication as to whether the game will be a downloadable album, an AC/DC-style retail product, or a The Beatles: Rock Band spin-off. However, the publisher did promise to provide more details on the project next month, presumably around the time that the Electronic Entertainment Expo descends on Los Angeles on June 2.

Until then, Pearl Jam has invited its fan-club members to select their favorite live performances of more than 40 different catalog hits through the band's official Web site. By way of a Rhapsody playlist widget, fans can listen to hundreds of different live performances of individual songs, with the versions that are played the most times being selected as the best.

In June, the selection process will be opened up to everyone, with fans tasked with building their own favorite setlists from the previously selected top tracks for the Pearl Jam Rock Band project. However, MTV Games did not indicate how many tracks will be included with the final project, promising only to provide more details in the coming weeks.

why pearl jam? why not MUSE??? if Harmonix haven't been checking their forums lately (and i mean in the past 2 years) they might have missed the 1080+ page monster thread (biggest one on the RB forums) asking for Muse DLC. it's pretty obvious what the fans want. either give us heaps of Muse DLC or an entire game!

Can't wait for The Beatles.... but Pearl Jam? Why not just take the time and save money to get the rights or something for Led Zeppelin? That would be a huge it. I do like the live aspect of it though, but it would be better if that was added as an option.

I can understand Rock band: Beatles because they're so iconic, but Pearl Jam has like... 3 good songs, GH: Aerosmith flopped and Metallica is just a big, fat money grabber, they could have released those songs as DLC instead of having a whole game for it.. but then again this is the way our economy works, everyone milks everything until it runs dry.

Aerosmith ok, Metallica Definately, but pearl Jam? come on these guys arent even good enought to get their own game. harmonix needs to stop copying activision and just make more DLC. thats rock bands strongest point.

Everyone should know about free music available at www.pandora.com (radio) and the Logitech Squeezebox. For some people now, it's probably the only music they listen to other than what is at their computer. CDs? I don't know anymore, I rarely buy CDs honestly, but I'm sure there are people who do.

we don't need this now. they should focus on making dlc and lowering dlc prices.

It's cheaper than downloading them. As long as they are exportable, like the past ones, this is great. Unlike GH, the songs can still all be played through the original Rock Band disc. I think a lot of people here have no clue what they're talking about. A lot of you, like otanikun, are saying you would rather pay MORE. The only downside is there might be a few songs you don't want. Otanikun, they might be earning extra money from this, but WE'RE playing less. So far, the AC/DC one was the only track pack with a higher price per song than DLC, and that changed pretty fast.
