@ atrueplay natal actually reads the environment and adjusts the play space for that very reason. And if you mean you have so small a room that you can't stand in one spot and do a kick, well then you are out of luck in many ways.

what happens if you dont have the freedom of space to do a round house kick in your room?... dont like this idea. get outside and do stuff on your own. go ahead those of u who are absolutly in love with this, give my comment a thumbs down.

IMURTAZA, natal is gonna be a different gaming experience from the conventional game-pad experience, therefore we should be expecting different kinds of games, although i feel like sony's gonna win the new motion controller campaign,

I haved to say the technology is a start in the right direction. People stop being so negative and look what might be start livin the dream ,use your imagination. Europeans and asians are enjoying tech savy things that we wont see becasue our country is so narrow minded. Are goverment prevents the things we could have know. So to say this wont work your wrong your just brainwash to this because you dont understand brilliance. And yes i live in the Land of the free right!!! give us what we deserve. If you want to know just google and you'll see how far advanced other countries are ahead compared to us.

I'm a little skeptical of the video. Between the movements of the people and the game mimicking it - there was almost zero delay. I expect the delay rate to be about the comparable rate to that of the Nintendo Wi - maybe slightly better. However, an advanced/adaptive motion sensor perfectly synchronized with the main system may be able to pull this off. Then we are looking at price tags at around $800 and up. We will just have to see - interesting stuff nonetheless.

if microsoft can pull this off, then all power to them... however, i am still skeptical with the precision that these trailers show. There are only so many movements taht an average human body can make while there are many options when using a hand held controller. What happens if someone walks by (it always happens) or if a dog or cat walk by? There are a lot of computations that need to be made to take into account everything that is going on in the space plus computing what is happening in the actual game. it is obviously a commercial with actors and not a demo. this is more of a WHAT COULD BE video.

If MS can pull it off though, they deserve all the success taht this can bring (if any) and not necessarily just in video games. It probably can be applied to many things.

Okay, for those of you saying its fake, your idiots because there are actual people that HAVE played it, like Adam Sessler from Xplay. For racing games, the camera thing can see the feet. For the games that have things that we CANT do, then thats what the controllers are still here for. The skateboarding one, you just wait till the avatar gets back up and then you start playing again. I must admit, the scanning of the board did have the hand in the way of the graphic, but the system might be able to realize what your hand is and just fill in empty space.

This IS obviously just a commercial, with people acting most of it out, but the actuality is that it does work.

Honestly, after seeing the hands-on thing for "Milo," I am extremely excited to see whether Microsoft can really pull this off. The tech would be revolutionary, better than what our Science Fiction has come up with. This is great.

PS: For the people saying wait for the next console, your wrong. The reason that the PS3 and PSP haven't been selling well lately is because they keep going through new systems, and people don't want to keep upgrading every five years. A system should, on average, last about a decade. I still have my N64 from '98, and it works fantastically. The reason PS is still going strong is because they were smart and let the Playstation 2 die slowly, rather than with a quick kill. Why should we waist time on stupid new stuff when we can IMPROVE the current??

When the kid scaned his skateboard he was partialy covering it with his hand, but the game still got it. Fake!

Call me lazy, but I'm not sure how many people are going to enjoy standing up to use this. The beauty of the Wii is, yes, they advertised it as stand-up entertainment, but you could still sit down while playing it. Indeed, I believe the majority of Wii owners now use their controllers sitting down. For most of Natal's games, it seems standing up is a requirement whether you want to or not!

I'm simply not convinced stand-up entertainment is the way of the future. I'd rather see something, Matrix-style, where players sit in a chair and virtually perform actions in their mind. Remember the guy who played Alien Invaders w/ his mind? (Google it). I'd rather see something like that perfected.

Well, I'm not judging until it is released. Maybe it would allow for replica guns to be used with the likes of Call of Duty and the likes and people make room to move in, just ask wii owners.

Copyright. Activision cannot use this idea when it comes about unless I say so. See how they like it, lol.

this is not a great achivment for gaming, how can i controll something i can't touch??,why should i move around to play a video game??,and how can i kick a ball that i can't even see it????,and how the goal keeper should save it if he doesn't even know where is the ball where is the ball????????,what happens if i crash with my skate board???????????,and how the hell i can check out a dress with out even wearing it?????????????,most importantly:HOW EXPENSIVE THIS WILL BE????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from technological achievement point of view, i find it astonishing.
If it goes well after a few years every device would have advanced recognition and new ways of interacting.
But for now most of them would fit better to a PC than an x360
    ---
In gaming it is total fail since you cant control perfectly something you dont even touch.. And i think most gamers play games to relax, and not to move around!
And most of games here now are just acting and no matter how much they try they will be imperfect

For example in the racing what happened to the pedals if you dont control the speed = fail
For penalties how do you aim?
trivial game... The bell rings before hitting the palm.. and in the second example it rings only once

and what happens if someone pushes you or if a fly passes by

  • bramterris

    Posted Jul 24, 2009 1:09 am PT

That first game looked like it would probably suck a lot. Wont have a lot of things that you could do in an actual fight i am guessing. The soccer one will be hard for the goalie to i think lol, and the skating one might be a little annoying due to turning, tricks and crashing.

  • abismu

    Posted Jul 23, 2009 11:07 am PT

i suggest they hold this off for the next console so they can have time to improve recognition software as well as have better capabilities to produce content with a more powerful console as well. they're rushing too many things into what's now, they should be spending more time on larger ideas such as this for the future not trying to cram it in :S.

    Posted Jul 22, 2009 3:42 pm PT

just a few questions... the kid skateboarding..... if he hits something in the game he is suppossed to fall in the game... so what happens in reality? and if everyone looks carefully the girl who is about to talk to her friend has different clothes in the xbox 360...the shirt is black and not navy grey(or something like that) jojoo

plus i dont think this will work. the ps3 will make better controllers and advance farther than the wii has...and the 360 will just...dont know but this time people will get lazy of moving

  • MrEnormous52

    Posted Jul 22, 2009 9:37 am PT

I wonder if Microsoft realizes that the casual audience they're trying to appeal won't pay for this. NATAL itself will be at least $100, plus the actual console for those who don't already own a 360; so those whom they think would buy this probably won't because of the cost issue. All of this aside, I think the applications of the machine won't be all that great. I can see it working well with certain genres, but not for most. Probably the best thing developers can do with this is add little sequences in games that use NATAL, but I don't see it amounting to much else on a broad scale. Nothing definite can be said now; we'll just have to wait to see how things pan out.

I don't know if the hardcore 20 hours of halo 3 a day people would want this, i mean, who would want to move around just to play a video game? The games shown here look more like they are for casual gamers. Oh well.

  • thunderhorse55

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 5:30 pm PT

@ jimbo001001: i read a while ago that the xbox 360 has captivated the majority of hardcore gamers, and now its gonna try to take over the casual market, much like the wii has done. so when you say "who would waste their money on that thing when u can play with a controller and play way better games," that's why

  • thunderhorse55

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 5:22 pm PT

uum, i dont know about this one. first of all, it looks overly simplistic. what about that kid playing skate? how are you supposed to choose between ollie and, say, hardflip? and if you want to do more than just a 180 or even a 360, thats not gonna work to well. i dont know, im still kinda skeptical about it. it also looks like it could get quite annoying trying to navigate menus. i guess we'll see what goes down when it comes out

lol, this will never work.. 1. because there is not enough fan base for those crappy games and the little fan base it has all play wii. 2. Most people who play games are out of shape and would never be able to play this for more than a few minutes, i mean cmon just hold your arms up in the steering wheel position i bet u cant last more than 10 minutes... 3. who would waste their money on that thing when u can play with a controller and play way better games. Bad mistake... and not to mention microsoft is making it so expect callbacks, glitches, red rings of death, etc... sorry but... FAIL
