E3 2008: Guitar Hero: World Tour Microsoft Conference Impressions

Red Octane's Kai Huang used Microsoft's E3 conference to show some of the upcoming content for Guitar Hero: On Tour.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is due for release later in the year, and as with any new Guitar Hero release, there's plenty of excitement about the track listing. Kaz revealed that in addition to the 85 songs that will ship in the game, REM will star in a new track pack while Metallica will upload its latest album on the same day as the traditional release. Then Huang revealed that Van Halen and The Eagles will also be coming to the Guitar Hero series, and they'll be completely exclusive to boot.

In addition to giving music announcements, Huang showed off images of its new drum and guitar peripherals for the upcoming title. The drums are a brand-new addition to the series, and they will feature traditional pads and cymbals as well as being completely wireless. According to Huang, the guitars will also feature a new "sliding mechanism," although he didn't elaborate further on what that means for the game.

There will also be new features such as an eight-player "battle of the bands" mode, as well as a Guitar Hero Studio that will let people create and share their own music in the game. Again, little elaboration was given on this detail, but Huang did say that the "GH Tunes" store will act as a front end for people to get ahold of new content for the game.

    Anyone has news about if there will have a PC version of GH4 ? No rumors sh*T but concrete informations about this?

    Activision never confirmed a PC version. The ESRB just rated a pc version.

    cod3onlinegamer if you dont know already jimi hendrix is going to be a playable character in world tour as well as have two songs: Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary

    They had better stay true to their word, and make the PC version. Also, for the PC, they need to release all the downloadable songs for the PC as well as for the consoles. GH3 PC still doesn't have any songs for download, at least not since the last time I checked.

    rock band was made by the same people who started guitar hero. both were created by Harmonix. Guitar hero was bought by activision after 2

    Am I the only one that likes Guitar Hero AND Rock Band? They are both good. GH came on the scene first, but Rock Band revolutionized Guitar Hero. Now GH4 is going to improve upon what Rock Band did. I can't wait for this, and RB2's setlist looks very promising as well.

    Xaovagon, at least your getting Metallica, Megadeth and Testament. And if you want heavier stuff, look up Abnormality, their song "Visions" is a bonus track, sounds like the stuff your looking for. The drums on it scare me...

    actually only the first and second guitar hero were created by Harmonix, they had an sort of conflict and Harmonix began to work apart (Rock Band)

    i really wanna see good just plain awesome songs from the 60s 70s 90s nd today. f the metal. have ppl like the who, ac/dc led zeppelin, wolfmother, awesome ppl classics. Nd i really feel like guitar battling pete townshend of the who or drum battling kieth moon of the who.

    crazy kid 314, the song war doesnt go to harmonix because there gh tunes, where you can download an endless amount of songs. and the drum are gonna just embarrass rockbands set. now people can actually roll. and songs will be challenging, thank god, as rockband was so simplified for the "casual gamers" sake. :p
