Boom Boom Rocket blowin' up XBL

Rhythm-based pyrotechnic spectacular from Geometry Wars creators explodes onto Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

Xbox Live Arcade got its most explosive title yet today, as Boom Boom Rocket blasted on to Xbox Live Marketplace. The rhythm game is the first Xbox Live Arcade one to be published by Electronic Arts and was developed by Bizarre Creations, the British studio responsible for Project Gotham Racing 3 and the XBLA hit Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved.

In Boom Boom Rocket, gamers with a penchant for pyrotechnics will have their fingers kept busy as they try to time fireworks' explosions to one of 10 songs created by Ian Livingstone, the composer for Project Gotham Racing 2. There are three single-player modes (Normal, Speed, Freestyle), a practice mode, and two offline multiplayer modes (Battle and Endurance).

Boom Boom Rocket is rated E for Everyone and costs 800 Marketplace points ($10). For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage or check back later for a full review.

It's kind of a poor man's rhythm game, but I did just play it with my son (taking turns) for the past two hours, so I'd say it's worth $10. It's kind of neat that you can use the visualizer with the song
s on your HD if you'd like (but you can't play with your own songs).

"Original games (Geometry Wars, Worms, Marble Blast, etc) have been $10 or $15 since the 360 launched. Remake games (TMNT Arcade, Gauntlet, Frogger) are the ones that are usually $5, although some have been $10"

While I do agree with your point, Geometry Wars was $5 and so was UNO. It is possible to make a really good $5 game but sometimes $10 is okay too.

Well, the only review, from a customer, says it's a good game. But, he/she feels that the game is missing something at the 800pt mark.

Seems like there should be more than 10 songs for $10 bucks. We'll see how the demo plays.
